Raptor wiring?

I'm running 4ga Raptor wire to my sub amp. Should I change it or is it one of the better brands?

your running it as power to the amps or power from your amp to the subs? if its from amp to the subs its fine even tho its raptor which sucks, 4 gauge for what you have is hella overkill, 4 gauge in general is overkill, but overkill is nice

No see that's the thing it goes from battery to amp. Should I get rid of it?

i would i have had some of the raptor wire and imo they suck get some knu 1/0 like 1.75 a foot its cheap and WAY better than that raptor

you might. depends on how much you've starved the amp with that raptor.

The Raptor 4 gauge is more like a 8 guage, I would say it is comparable to Boss Wire.

1st let me say that I agree with everyone here. You need better wire.

Now to your question.

Do feel like your amp runs a little too hot the majority of the time?

Does your amp get hot fairly fast?

Do you suffer from thermal overload which kicks in the protection circuit to shut the amp down?

3 tests.

Setup for the test:

With you engine turned off but your stereo left on and your radio set to CD mode eject the CD and don't let it go back to radio and if you can't do that then just turn your volume all the way down.

Test 1:

Use a DMM and check your DC voltage at the battery and see what it says. (Example would be 12.5 volts DC)

Then go back to your subwoofer amp and use the DMM on your power and ground inputs on your amp and see if you have a different voltage like 12.1 volts DC.

Then go back to the battery and make sure it is still staying at your original number. Our example is 12.5. as long as you are quick enough the battery should still say 12.5 or 12.4 as the car accesoraries are pulling some current. Make sure to turn off your heater blower and anything else that pulls current.

This is called voltage drop. If you have it then definetly get better power wire for sure.

Test 2:

Same as above but do it with the engine running and it might be better to do this test this away first instead of leaveing your engine off.

Test 3: Use a continues test tone (while the engine is running) at 1/3 to 1/2 of your volume. Just not enough volume that you know you are pulling alot of current and do the same test. Check at the battery. Then check at the amp. Then check at the battery again.

Sorry for all the options here but it has been so long since I have needed to find voltage drop that I am a little fuzzy remember the propper way to do it.
