Mobile Chassis Dyno Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 What is a good rule of thumb when building an enclosure in which you have subwoofers facing each other. I imagine there is a minimum distance that they need to be a part. How is tuning, spl, sound quality affected with this distance? Thanks in advance!! mr.p Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 i dont think anyone has specifically calculated it....try to keep them as far apart as possible unless its a bandpass i imagine.... DCAUDIO BALLS DEEP

Your enclosure brings up another question. It would seem that having 4 subs firing at each other would cause some type of cancellation of sound waves. I am probably wrong. The reason for these questions is I am getting the itch to do something with one of my trucks. I am considering doing a blow thru with my ranger. Not sure I am willing to take a saw to my diesel. Miakehl Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I have my subs facing each other just slightly off angle and it's the loudest to the ear I've heard in my car... [HOONIGAN]* '01 Ford F-250 LWBJVC KD-R950BT / Alpine MRV-M500 / (2) SWA-10s4
mr.p Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 its a compromise. im sure a flat wall with the same given cone vs a bass tunnel will be louder avoiding said problems, but a diamond or tunnel has a half ass bandpass effect all in its own. DCAUDIO BALLS DEEP
Boon Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 It depends what you're trying to achieve. Generally you need to have them far enough apart that the space between them doesn't act as a port/chamber - this means the opening should have an area greater than the combined piston area of the woofers inside it. 10.x volts fo' life!
rawlins87 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Good to see you made it on here Brian. This is 351lightning on CR. Don't really need to much space. Diamonds and tunnels (sp?) builds are within 12-18inches apart. If it's a build like chickens hoopty you could get some effects of a sixth order bp. Clamshell it if you are low on space.
