I am going to be running 3 12" and they are rated 1000-2000 watts (and able to handle a 3500 watt burp) but I was looking at the specs and they say "power range: 100-1,000 watts RMS (500 watts RMS per coil)" does that mean if I run 3 like this with a mono block at around 1800 watts I would be over powering them?

if they are rated at 1k each and you're giving them 1800 watts total you will be underpowering them

but they are 500 per vc what should I be running then for 3?

500 x (6 vc) = 3k RMS. Your are fine with 1800

Edit: I should have said you are not overpowering them with 1800, sorry.

to accurately power you need 3k rms total

so look for an amp around 34-3500 rms at 1 ohm just to be safe

damn i am confused I was thinking if I was using a mono block amp each positive would be receiving the same power coming off of the amp (like 1800w)

right, 1800 watts comes out the positive terminal. it then trickles through the subs in equal proportion because of equal resistance, so each sub gets 600 watts of the original 1800 (1800/3=600), and then each coil sees half of that because again of equal resistance, so each coil is getting 300w
