He thinks the only way to destroy a woofer is over-powering it... he doesnt believe in clipping killing subs... I told him an amp rated @ 28v running 40v over time will not be the cause of a dead subwoofer, can you guys set him straight with FACTS?

what clipping does is turn that sine wave into a square wave

therefore causing longer excursion at full xmax therefore causing heat to form on the VC and causes it to warp and seize up

well my Alpine is rated @ 400RMS @ 28.28v and I was running it @ 40v and shit started heating up (coils included) and he told me that clipping wouldnt cause that and that the people are caraudio.com told him so lol

you amps not rated at 28V.... its rated at 12 or 14.4

400 rms at 2 ohm how ever is 28V so to get your 400rms at 2 ohm you set your amp for 28V

I think he means the amp was reading at 40v on a DMM.

sqrt (400w x 2ohm) = 28.28 volts

sqrt (8002 x 2ohm) = 40 volts

Why were you trying to set your amp so high?
