988216855 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 US AMPS MERLIN MD3D MD-3D 2000w rms and two RE AUDIO SXX12D4 12" 2,000 WATT RMS RATED (together) its going in a pontiac g6 2008. i don't know much about it all i know is that i have to upgrade the big 3 for sure. and maybe the alternator and batteries but i don't know how many or what kind. but i really wana stay away from the alternator, i would prefer not to change it and go with a battery or something like that so please help..!!!

I'd eventually get an alternator but I feel you on not wanting to replace the alternator yet. skittlesRgood Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 just to help you understand this a little bit... to charge a car battery with a 10amp charger you would need to charge it overnight. lets say your alt is 105amps and your car is using 60amps to run itself. that leaves 45amps to charge at least 3 big batts, but thats at 2k rpm at idle you will have much less amperage maybe only 20amp so charge the batts. so that would again take all night to charge your batts. they wont get a good charge on the way to work! this also means that your alt is always running at full capacity to try to keep those batts charged. this will make your alt over heat and fail. leaving you stranded on the side of the road somewhere. its like your taking an electric hammer and beating the shit out of the alt lol. and this isnt even taking into account that you will be playing your system while you are driving and draining the batteries so your alt will never really get the chance to charge them. check out mechman, they seem to have better prices for alts and they are really good. You'll be able to get away with it for a while(only if u have extra batts) but eventually the stock alt with crap out on ya. This is one of the many situations on here of someone getting antsy with buying a system and not doing proper research ahead of time. You buy a high power amp + subs, then not have anywhere near proper electrical to run them. Another way to look at it would be like having a 1000hp RWD car and trying to drive it in the rain.
