mxman38 Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Somehow my X-over on my kicker KS component broke the Long wound up red coil pack that is soldered to the board... So my amp went into protect, i since have resoldered it back on and hooked it up to my receiver in my room and it appears to be working correctly. two questions, what was it that broke, its def. not a heatsinc, is it a resistor? and if it is a resistor, how can i make sure its all functioning properly?

It takes the treble out if I am correct. I don't think coils break, so if it is soldered tight, you should be ok. God damn its hot today. My balls are stuck to my leg.
Boon Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 It's an inductive coil, as mentioned above it's usually used to remove high frequencies from the mid driver. If your mids aren't playing treble then you're good. I've repaired a bunch of these myself, as long as you didn't short any of the windings by cooking the enamel on them you'll be fine. 10.x volts fo' life!
