how to install headunit with a premium car system

hey all. i have a 2000 pontiac grand prix gt with the factory premium Bose stereo w/o onstar. what do i need to get and do to install a alpine cda-9886? i need all the info and tips i can get on how to do this. i plan on doing it sometime soon. THANKS!!

i can't answere your question but i can tell you that i could figure out how to change my head unit out to save my life.

i asked on here and got some general but great answer's. when i ordered my wiring harness and faceplate for my truck from "Crutchfeid.com", they sent with it a step by step "how to" for my specific year and make. it was so easy with their paper work that i laughed and felt stupid for putting it off for so long. i strongly recommend taking the time to ask them and getting your deck from them. its a little more expensive but unlike sonic or tecronics they havent jacked me around on my orders. sent out the next day with a tracking#. hope this helps

For onstar, your going to have a buy a module if you want to keep it, along with the door chime as well. the module will cost around 100$ at shops, but im sure you can find it cheaper online. as for the premium sound system, you might have to bypass the amp all together. If you plan on adding aftermarket speakers and an amp later, then you might as well bypass it.

you could always buy a harness and plug it in and see if it plays under the factory amp. If not, troubleshoot it or just bypass it.

if there's a factory amp aren't the "speaker" leads coming off the harness actually low level lines (like RCAs)?

Bose lines do have low level input speaker lines. My g37 has a bose system and the front speakers, and rear deck signal from the head unit are all low level. If you have bose woofers in your car as well, that signal is processed by the woofer amp.

My suggestion is bypassing the amp all together for the simple fact that bose speakers are 2 ohm (mine are at least) and hard to find better replacements for.
