Flush mount

Recommended Posts

I am going to start my box for 2 SA 12's approximately 3.5 cubes with displacements tuned to 36 hz with two 4" aeros.

My question is, If it is double baffled but the the subs are flush with the top baffle would it be bad or cause a sifnificant loss in loudness. I want to try and compete in an amateur class in a few months.

Also should I tune higher?

how would it decrease loudness? it doesnt affect anything on the woofer since its not even touching it pretty much. its just a beauty plate to make the woofer look nicer in the box.

i would recommend doing a triple layer if your going to flushmount. IT gives a lot more for the screws to bite into.

why? its 2 12's not like 4 15's. no point in doing that IMHO. its not like a double baffle is gonna flex so much that you need another layer.

A double baffle is for extra box strength, correct? Then why would it be a beauty plate? It definitely helps with support, not for looks.....

flush mounting is for looks. of corse the second baffle adds strength. kranny knows this, you just didnt get his point.

my opinion on flush mount... dont do it. youll understand when you have to line up the screw holes and cant grab the woofer. or have to take to woofer out. its a huge pain in the ass with a heavy woofer.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

x2....fuck that X1,000,000

they are a total bitch tring to get a 50lb speaker out of the box. But as said if you want a double baffle and you want to flush mount i would do a triple baffle. This way you have two layers of wood for the sub to be mounted two and the third will add more strength to the box and allow for a flush mount. By god i will never do it again.

i have a good memory of "ow ow ow, my finger is in there! drew lift it, lift it!!"

some people seem to have a problem finding screws that will hold a woofer but its really not a big deal. a deck screw will hold onto .75" of mdf just fine. just buy good "deck" screws.
