peel and seal in hot weather..

has anyone ever used this stuff in an area where its hot because i was thinking about just doing my floor and some panels with it then doing my doors and roof with second skin. i heard some people say it would peel off in heat but others say it doesnt so idk. any advice?

the floor shouldn't be a problem, ya got good ole' gravity to help on that one, I wouldn't do it on any vertical panels though, not without spray adhesive to kinda help out.

spray adhesive may work, but you're better off using a heat gun to make the rubber "sticky" and then place it where it needs to go.

use it on the floor, but save your money and put a better dampener eveywhere else.

dynamat, raamat, fatmat, hushmat, second skin, etc will all work better.

I have indeed used Peel N seal and about 10 other mat type deadener products. I have enormous experience with just about anything you can think of in the car audio world, and being an engineer, I test the crap out of everything. But I dont have to explain, I am HHR Ed for bajeebus sake.

-Peel N Seal and similar products use a rubberized asphalt as a filler and a mild adhesive. The problem is that this material softens with heat. Also, its water/air proof structure traps small air bubbles underneath the mat when being applied. These pockets of air expand when heated, further pushing the mat away from the surface. Then the softened mat stretches and pulls away from the surface. Also, come winter, the rubberized asphalt dries and hardens, causing cracking as well as the adhesive drying out. So it will never stick back down.

Also, you need 2-3 layers to equal the same sound deadening rating of a thick, butyl based mat such as Second Skin Dampifier Pro, so price must be taken into account for multi layers.

Its good to let your viewers know of cheap alternatives, but let them know why its cheap, and what they can expect from it.
