Twiztidsetup Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 I just found this out that my deck is a 2v pre output and my amplifier gain output volt is set at 8v. Because it gives me the most bang. Am I wrong but this is bad due to high distortion? Can I atleast set it at 4v because if set at 2v it bairly puts out. If I upgraded my deck to a 4v or 5v pre output would my system be louder with less distortion , setting my amp to 4v or 8v? Im pretty confused on this because my amp is set at 8v right now.Being that it is the loudest. What should I be doing? Thanks Amplifier: dpx11551 Deck: CDXGT240

Could this be why the infinitys I took back were making a smokey smell? hahaha. I phucked up ... I think it should be well told through these forums. Guest Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 from what i remember the lower the number on the gain knob (like .2v) is louder than a higher number (like 8v) its probably quiet at 2v for you because theres something wrong with the settings on your headunit, such as the subwoofer level being down. my headunit has 2v preouts and my gain is at like 3v because i dont want to output all the power to my speaker since it wouldnt be able to handle it but thats another story.

Hmm thats weird because all the expensive decks put out 4v - 8v. And my 8v set on the amp is loud as hell. Maybe theres bairly any bass at 2v because I have to turn my gain up to compensate from the 8v it was on.. because I have it on 8v with a low gain, 2v with a higher gain would prob compensate.. IDK The reason I never knew this is because 90% of the damn gain tuning guides dont say anything about the gain volts! They need to update this before people blow there subs like I did. My system sounds clean because my gain is only 1/4th on due to break in on my new cvr subs even on 8v with the 2v deck I will be clicking that button down to 2v and re-tune it asap. As soon as the doctor office way across the street closes haha. Doc came over yesterday and complained about me shaking everything in his office's and customers . I was nice about it and said it will never happen again.
