Tuning a port for SPL

i got 1 DC level 4XL 15" and i built a ported box around 4.8cuft tuned to around 30Hz. i thought the lower the frequency the better but im reading some posts and i think im wrong lol. i mean i want it to sound good daily cause they dont have many SPL comps around here. i could make a different box and swap them when a comp is coming up lol. i wanna get at least to 145db really make it to 150db if its possible

Ehhhh what on earth would lead you to think that lower = better when it comes to SPL?

For pure burping higher = better. That's why the euros use those tiny little cars like Pandas and Marbellas that peak in the 70's.

2008 chevy impala, and right now a JL 1000/1. i dont know i guess i figured the lower it was tuned you could play lower notes and make more pressure.

Ive been running a JL Audio 1000/1 and a Fi Audio BL 15'' Fully Loaded for about a year. Ive built 4 different enclosure's all to different specs. All the enclosures were in the 3.3 - 4.2 cubic foot range. They were in the 26 - 37hz range as far as tuning and anywhere from 35 - 72.5 square inches of port area. I've been in two car audio soundoffs and the best score I posted was a 140.2 TL legal. The box was 4.2 cubes tuned to 37hz w/ 72.5 sq in. of port. Completely stock electrical.

For you to hit a 145.0 or even be in the 150.0 club I think you got a ways to go ( with just 1 15'' and 1000 watts). I dont think any enclosure will take you to that level.

I have a few upgrades i've done ( big 3 ). I have a couple more planned like 300 amp DC Power alt, Optima D34 Yellow top, 0 gauge wire all around, Sundown saz3500d or Setsom 4k2d, custom fiberglass enclosure and last but not least 15'' Fi BTL or 15'' RE XXX.

With that setup i'm happy if I hit a 145.0 on the TL.

your gonna wan a big but reasonable size boxed tuned for 45hz or higher. but thats no good for daily IMO

well if rob woolcot can hit 152+ in a trunk with 1 level 5 10" i have to be able to reach at least 145db. maybe when i get another amp with a little bit more power. thing is i might make a second box just for competitions cause im gonna be using it more as a daily then strictly SPL.

145-150 will probably never happen unless your box is firing in to the cabin completley sealed off from the trunk
