Ported vs Sealed

i said that i tried facing them the other way before and i heard no bass like at all. how much quieter is it and how much clearer is it. I want cleaner bass so i'm probably going to try out a sealed.

you have way too many misconceptions. cleaner bass doesnt mean switching from a ported box to a sealed box. i have heard ported boxes that sound way cleaner than sealed boxes. its all in the design. and ive never heard of a woofer distorting because of trunk flex. that all has to do with the settings on your amp. list your equipment here and we can help you more.

i dont think it will be cleaner, i mean, as long as your ported box is dust free you shouldnt have any issues with cleanliness.

infact, the decreased output may drive you to turn it up higher than usual, introducing excessive extortion and causing a drop in sound quality, or even a blown woofer. personally i would stick with ported and deaden the car.

and unless you can describe the difference between ported and sealed in a term other than "cleaner" or "clearer" than we both know you dont have a clue what the advantage and disadvantage of sealed is...

yea i meant clearer and the bass is not distorted i meant basically that i can't hear it well its because of all the shit moving and rattling.

And my main question was if a sealed would make it rattle less and how much different in loudness is sealed vs ported and how much different is the sound quality.

I have read around that sealed is usually clearer. if i open up the trunk the bass comes out nice and clear and I am probably not going to deaden the car most likely.

I have an alpine type r 12" with a 12" bassworx box and an alpine mrp 850. with a pioneer headunit

i just have a question for you...

if you know something is rattling in your car, why dont you find out what specifically is rattling and glue it down or insulate it?

I know what is rattling but i can't get into the area to glue it down. Also its a combination of many things that i have no idea how im going to stop from rattling.

rattles are rattles, so either fix the rattles or lose the sub. if you want the decreased output of a sealed box, turn the damn volume down and save yourself the work....its not hard, that thing that says "bass boost" on the amp, make that zero. turn the gain down until the rattles go away.

that or man up and fix the damn rattles. there is NO spot in any car that you cant get to with basic handtools and a few minutes.

alright... let's say i fix the rattles because the main question was how much clearer and quieter a sealed box is vs a ported one.

btw i don't want to use dynomat because idk how much longer ill have this car.

i answered you, and a few others did, technically, switching from a sealed box to a ported box will be a increase of 3db, thats the basic rule of thumb.. But sealed boxes hit a larger range of frequency's with the same response. you wont stop your rattle by switching boxes, i told you exactly how to stop your rattle.. its quiet when you face it forward because your not properly powering your type Rs

clearer=not at all. different response curve=definately. lower roll off=definately. better? who knows...quieter=probably, but noone can give you even a ballpark idea of how much quieter. i can tell you that lowering the volume will make it quieter. my sub is usually on like -4 on my deck, even though +4 is where i can play it all day and have it be loud. 8 notches down is where it sounds the best to me... (and my 3 18's were usually like 12-15 notches down....just cuz it can doesnt mean you have to)
