Power wire question.

I was just curious to the difference between my Stinger HPM tinned Oxygen-free Copper wire that is typically 4-6 dollars a foot for 1/0g and my knukonceptz KLMX Copper Clad Aluminum wiring made up of 90% Aluminum and 10% Copper which is 1.50-2.00 a foot for 1/0g?

Not alot, but the Stinger is probably that price cause you are getting it from a shop and they are marking it up like crazy.

Umm even online stinger wire for 1/0 is 3.40 a foot...

Stinger is a Big time name, been around for a long time. I use Knu wire and love it. i tested a foot of it vers some stinger, memphis, street wire, and kicker and they all came out to be very close in resistance. just my .02

I had bought Knukonceptz KLMX from a guy online that said it was the nicer fleks, and got ripped off. If he said it was KLMX I would of never ran it... PERIOD!

I recently just got rid of it, and now I am running all 3/0 welding cable that is 100% pure oxygen freen copper.

Also I sell Stinger at the shop.

Its simple, Stinger, you are paying for a name, but the stinger wire CANNOT be compaired to Knukonceptz KLMX.

The knukonceptz KLMX wire is way below stinger audio grade. They are 2 different types of wire.

Pure Copper > Tinned wire > Copper Clad Aluminum wire (CCA)

Tined means that the wire is copper, tinned with aluminum.

Copper clad means that the wire is aluminum tinned with copper (so it appears to be copper wire) but is not!

Copper clad wire does not handle as much current as a copper or copper tinned wire will, and when you strip the insulation off the copper clad wire, it kind of springs out at you, makes it very difficult to get into an amp or ring terminal.

The Stinger HPM wire you speak of is very much so comparable to the nicer Knuconceptz Flex wire, the nicer stuff that is $3 something a foot.

They both use the same sort of flexible insulation (where as the klmx wire uses a cheaper thing rubber insulation that dont take heat as well as the HPM or FLEX).

If it was a choice between Stinger HPM and Knuconceptz Flex wire, Id choose the Knu Flex because they are almost indenical wire, but the knu offers a way higher strand count (higher then kicker and RF power wire, which would be my 2nd choices).

Also Stinger wire is CEA rated, so it will meet the guide lines of being True 1/0 gauge wire, but it wont exceed it.

In order from best to worse.

Stinger wire I get thru AM Distributors.

The Shok competitor wire you need to be on the team for, which I got 5 friends on, but I dont run Shok myself.

The 200feet of Knukonceptz flex that got jacked from my garage I ordered straight from their site when they started up (it was $3.15 a foot at that time 2.5 years ago).

The welding cable Im currently running I get locally from AirGas, which is a welding supply type store that we have an account with and pay 2.45 a foot for it.

Other people online have ordered the welding cable from a company called Trystar or Tristar (one of them too), and theres a guy on ebay that also sells it called "coppercableman" or something similar to that, and he will even print whatever text on the wire you want for free. Not sure on prices tho.

with copper clad aluminum you need to use AT LEAST one size larger than standard copper to carry the same amount of current. pure copper is far superior and best bang for the buck is welding cable.

So untrue, but thanks for your comment!

CCA wire does not carry the same amperage load as a normal copper tinned or pure copper wire, but the difference in the current is minimal. like 20-40amps less (40 being on the way way way high sides of things).

If your running a decent rear battery, chances are the money your saving buying CCA wire is not even noticeable audibly or on a meter.
