Explorer Paint Job

now mind you I AM NOT SAYING to pay out the ass because you dont know how to do something. i mean, common sense would imply you would shop around and find deals, do research, and make an informed and smart decision. i think his price and what he is asking for is incredibly steep. but its still his price. cant argue too much with that.

go to maaco, smaller paint shops, check online, go to craigslist and find what works best. but at the end of the day you still must pay someone else to do it.

You should have to help out on working on your own car when you are paying somoeone else to work on it. But prep and paint aint cheap, I was in my dads shop today and he did a boat and the truck to match and is cost the R.O around 31,000 and some change. But if you want it half ass you can always go to somewhere like maaco or econo in your area, they usually have a special going on some paint jobs that only last a few years then you will be in the same situation you are in now.

Just my 2 cents, you said you have to buy the guy a compressor? I honestly don't know a single auto painter that doesn't own his/her (dont wanna be sexist lol) own air compressor. Its kinda one of those have to have kind of things. Im not saying that the guy may or may not be any good, but 1600 for a paint job isnt bad even if you are helping with the sanding if the guy is good. I would say look at his portfolio of paint jobs and if he dont have one find someone else.

That guy's trying to rip you off asking you provide materials, food, and transportation...I would do that Explorer for $1500 colorsanded and buffed to a mirror-like shine, the ONLY thing i would ask you to provide the paint itself, i'd even do all the work at your place if u have space....too bad, i'm all the way out in Cali :/ .....

midsize suvs $1300

trucks/suvs $1800

and that includes my buying the paint =) but the prices definitely go up if theyre wanting something extra nice, glossy, or candy. but like you, im in alaska, lol

we pretty much charge the same, the reason why i charge a bit more is because people tend to add things they want me to do to their car while I'm working on it and that way I wouldnt have to up the price anymore....also, i ask for them to provide the paint because it wouldn't be fair if one person wants a basic white and another wants a pearl or candy and charge the same, know what I'm sayin....

like you said about the nice and glossy part, we charged 2k for the '55 chevy on my myspace(in my sig.), but the guy provided ALL materials, all we charged for was labor...

true, location tends to interfere with business!lol
