Alpine amp is cooking hot..?

Recommended Posts

So I just bought a new car today, 2003 Crown Vic P71. So I threw the system in there. I just bought a brand new Alpine MRP-M1000 amp today and got everything hooked up. Within a matter of a couple minutes, the amp got really really hot. Like, burnt my hand hot.

Brand new amp, defective maybe? Any other reasons why it would be hot? Bad ground?

could be alot of reasons

could be clipping the amp

starving the amp (to small of power wire, low voltage)

could be defective but i doubt it

Not getting enough air

did a little searchin, checkin out reviews, there are some complaints of it getting hot. If it doesn't shut off then its fine, thats what the thermal protection is for. Just make sure your gains are set correctly and you should be ok

You now have an H/O alt?

If Morgan Freeman narrated a story on how great AIDS is, I would be captivated and tempted to contract it myself. His voice just fills my soul with warm fuzzies and puppy tears.

He has NO idea and may have a touch of autism to be honest.

Is this guy real or is he joking? i actually mistook him for a lesbian in that demo video

Wanted to mess around with a box for the garage. Was thinking 4 6x9 in 4 cube at like 30 hz...

These are the things that make me lol

hot enough to burn skin? don't think so, this thing is on fire, the internals are begging to be melted.

Voltage is 14.5 on 2 batteries and stock Police Interceptor alternator(which is usually around a 190-200 so it can run all sorts of police equipment)

I have the same amp... doesn't even get warm. Weird. May be the fact that my sub is hooked up at 4 ohms too.

I had that amp wired up to 2 ohms. And it would get overheated if the backseat was up (even though the back seat being up didnt cause the amp to be in a closed spot really(besides the trunk lol) but honestly I didnt know the proper way to set the gain so it was only like half the way up. I did some research on the amp after i bought it (smh) and alot of people had the same problem of the amps getting hot or going into protection.

I have the smaller m500 and never had a heat issue, i'm thinking your running at 1ohm instead of the 2ohm required

I had that amp as well, on these subs for a couple days as a matter of fact. never got hot. they are almost perfectly tuned at 2 ohms
