wiring

ok so my uncle gave me his box of spair audio stuff, and i found these little black and blue cylinder things that have wire coming out of each side... i ran it threw the positive side on some 3.5's and found that they act kinda like a crossover. Its like it limites the bass, which results in me being able to turn it up higher with out it distorting. i would like to get more, but i dont what they are called or where i can get them.. probly a noob question lol but i dont know...

back in the day before there were sub amps it was all full range amps. so they used a crossover, the cylinder you found, to control the frequency's going to the subs. i found the same thing at the shop i used to work at and thats what i was told

well really all you need is an amp with the built in crossover. im pretty sure you can just pull that out of the mix
