Pioneer DEH-780mp not powering door speakers?

Recommended Posts

Well, hooked up a Pioneer DEH-780mp into my buddy's 1998 Chevy S10. Worked great for a bit, then he went to turn the passenger airbag off, and the head unit no longer powers the door speakers. The sub is working fine... it's just like a muffled sound. Basically just bass that we're getting from the head unit. Any suggestions? It worked fine and dandy until he turned the passenger airbag off, then it just quit working. We've tried settings on the head unit, no avail. Although i didn't have the manual for it... so i'm not exactly if there are more settings deeper into the HU's controls. The HU Illuminates and produces bass. that's about it.Any help or advice, or linking in the correct direction would be greatly appreciated, trying to get this taken care of ASAP.

Thanks!

Seems weird that that happened after he switched the airbag off....

I had that happen in a truck I did an install in and the problem turned out to be a wire that came off one of the door speakers and was making contact with bare metal on the inside of the door, so i suggest you make sure EVERY wire is in it's place...

Hmm. Well, he was playing with the airbag switch, didnt make a difference. I'll mess with it some more. Also, to AudioAddict, One loose/bare wire touching metal can short the entire deck out, or put it into "protection" mode, like a faulty ground may cause an amplifier? Is this confirmed? I see the plausibility, just have never experienced that type of problem. I'll have to look into every speaker. Thanks for the help guys, any more information/tips? I thought it could be the fuse or the wiring harness, but i just dont see how that could be the problem with my situation and how it went down.

Thanks again!

That's true, but in my case I didnt think that was the problem at first because the hu didn't go into protect mode or blow any fuses and the subs kept playing, when I took the door speaker out I took the wire off the bare metal and all the speakers started playing again.....It's worth a shot, just trying to help...!:)
