Depending on the head unit... My iPad will not work via USB through my head unit - it complains and states it's an unsupported accessory. The HU gives a USB error.

Youre welcome man. Im just glad I could help. About the ipad over the headunit, it'll work if your hood with fabrication (fibergalssing). Itll probably look similar to Meade's dash, expect the ipad would be replacing the mac's screen.

or like I said, he could use the 3.5mm headphone jack. Pretty much all aftermarket stereos have it

He also makes a custom optical cable to 30pin connector and idk if you know haha but Im new to car audio and I 100% guarantee i couldnt do that. But thanks anyways

If the iPad used the same different charging mechanism as the newer iPod touches and iPhones do, you will need this scosche passport thing to make it charge and work properly.

Also, It would be a hassle to keep having to pull it out and back in just to charge it, so make sure you find a solid way to power it.

For all these reasons a carputer is more ideal and offers less problems.
