Anyways, I'm looking to up the stereo in my car (2001 Grand Prix GT, stock alt/batt, but batt may be changing soon) Right now, consists of Sony headunit Dual 4-channel amp for mids/highs Bass Inferno BI2500DX on subs Stock door speakers Pioneer 6x9 back speakers 2 Kicker CVR 12's in Kicker box (07DCVR122) wired at 2 ohm I was thinking about swapping out the subs for a pair of CVX 12's, but would the box need to be bigger or can I just use the stock box for now? Also, what amplifier would work best, but be cheap enough to fit a 17 year old's low pay? (lol). Also, does anyone have any experience with doing the big 3 upgrade on a GP because I'll probably end up doing that on Saturday. Thanks POTATO!

I would redo the box because it would be made to the sub's specs and your tuning. What do you consider cheap? You could find a Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bd for under $500 new. iceman1575 Posted June 5, 2010 Author Report Posted June 5, 2010 Well, whatever I spend on subs will be phase 3 of my potential setup. First phase is the big 3 upgrade & a new battery/wiring. Second phase, which is what i think will be the most important, is the amp. I've already decided to move up from my cheap POS Bass Inferno amp & go to a good quality amp, namely the MTX TE1501D. Found them for about $300 on eBay, & they will work with both setups, whichever one I decide to stick to. It outputs 1000w RMS @ 2 ohms, which will suit my two CVR's fine for now, but they will also work for my CVX dual 4 ohms when I decide to get them (parallel on coils, parallel subs brings it to 1 ohm, 1500w RMS). Does that sound like a good idea? Right now my main concern is the amplifier. POTATO!
Beanz Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 yeah that mtx is a current hog though draws a lot of current but its a nice amp..next id say is build you a box for them kickers man That's why they don't deliver. Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait. You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

iceman1575 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Report Posted June 6, 2010 That sounds like a better deal, but I'm more for SQ than comp. I've already decided to just go with that MTX amp. What am I looking at with the TE1501D if I get it? Anyone have pros/cons on the MTX amps, preferably TE series? POTATO!
