M82a1snake Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 i have one yellowtop under hood and two xs power D3100's hooked up to 6000 true watts rms at 1 ohm. which amperage alternator should i get? if i get one 300amp alt(with an outboard rectifier) would that be good enough?? i have a regular trailblazer 4.2L engine, any ideas? i dont think i can go dual alts cuz not enough space but not sure. Team_DC-Derrick Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 you just gotta call or email them, it wont be posted on their website. If they can make 2 300s for my integra im sure they can do something for you Quote The DC Integra 3 18s to 6 15 build log Team_DC-Derrick's Youtube Team DC Audio where theres a will theres a wall....... G_skillz81 Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 I'm happy with my Mechman 300A, but I'm quite sure you can't go wrong with DC or Iraggi either Quote 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 - Deep Orange Build log - Blowthrought with 4 18's http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/122600-4-18s-in-a-dodge-ram-team-sundown-russia/ Sundown Audio SAX125.2 - Sundown PA 10" Shok-wiring & RCA's XS Power D6500 Mechman 320A Sundown Audio Russia http://sundownaudio....dex.php?/index http://www.drive2.ru...ram/ram/skillz/ - more about my truck http://www.youtube.com/user/Gskillz81
M82a1snake Posted June 12, 2010 Author Report Posted June 12, 2010 oh ok cool. so you think one 300amp alt would fit the job?? or will i need more? tomypg Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) Calculate it out. 6000 watts/14.4 = 417 amps. One 300 amp alternator, depending on brand, will easily put out 75 percent of it's capacity a idle( I hope ), so 300 x .75 = that's 225 amps. So your getting round about half your power from the alternator. That's assuming you want no voltage drop, bu the two xs batts should keep that, personally I would get two for 6kw, but you can get away with one. Irragi and dc power should have dual alt kits for your car, if not they can custom make them. M82a1snake Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 ok sorry i dont have the ohms law pie chart memorized. but i thought itd look like this, 6000 X .81 (efficiency) = 4860 watts. 4860 / 14.4 = 337 amps. which the amp IS 81% efficient at 1 ohm.correct?? or no? .... anyway so saying we go with these calculations "6000 / .8 (efficiency) = 7500 watts. 7500 / 14.4 = 520 amps. saying the amp is 8O% efficient, youll need to support a 520 amp load" ... i still dont know how size alternator i need do i just take half of that 520amps, so i'd need one 260 amps? therefore id get either a 250amp alt or a 300amp alt. and by the way mechman HO alts only have a single 250amp alt for my vehicle... unless 250amps would be ok and still operable and wouldnt see TOO much voltage dropage...
