Headunit upgrade worth it?

Im new to car audio and ive done quite a bit of research on subwoofers and such but not so much on headunits. I have yet to upgrade anything in my car yet. I have an 05 Dodge Neon and the stereo sounds pretty damn good in my opinion, but I read that adding an aftermarket headunit will increase SQ from stock quite a bit, I like having my stock radio in there though because it fits nicley with the rest of the dash n stuff. Ive been planning on adding a 10" or 12" in the trunk first as my stock highs/mids already can get pretty loud. So is upgrading your HU really worth it? How much of an Increase in SQ would I gain?

I wouldn't really say there's a SQ increase, if you're running the same speakers. If you upgrade the speakers and throw an amp in there, you'll definetly notice a difference.

I noticed a significant difference when I first replaced my factory ford head unit with an alpine head unit. My factory head unit sounded very muffled and the bass would literally stop increasing at a certain point as you turned up the main volume.

Depends on the quality of the internal amplifier.
