bigshane90
so i am new to smd but not to car audio. The prob. i am having is obviously i need more db. my current setup is in a 95 f150 ext cab. one aq 3500d and one 18. the box is an external aero port box. sub up, port passenger side. i have used to diferent sized boxes with almost no diference at all. First up was a 4.1 cube tuned to 40hrtz. it did a 146.8 at the headrest at 49hrtz. second i built a big 7 cube box tuned to 40hrtz, it did a 147.0 at 47hrtz. so my question is why is there hardly any diference in spl with such a huge box difference. am i missing something? is this sub and port placement not gettin the most outa my truck? dwright27
those trucks are hard to get loud without a wall. try sub up port up, also try sub forward port up. EDIT: flip the box around so the port fires to the drive side Edited July 18, 2010 by dwright27 Quote 2006 F-150 4 DC XL M2 18's Walled Daily Driver XS Power 4 DC 3.5kw Team DC Team S.P.L. kirill007
How much port area on each box? Quote Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
Forevrbumpn
yeah was going to say the port is firing in the wrong direction I would do sub passenger side, port firing driver side Quote I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. bigshane90
thanks for the replys! as for port area both boxes had two 6in external aeros. i thought the 7cube was probly losing numbers do to the fact it was shy 1 or two aeros. and thanks for the direction advice but i am competing in meca ameture class so i cannot have sub passenger side port drivers side. i also need to say i own two aq 3500d so i can strap... and i own an aq hdc3 that was just reconed to the copper with the new spiders they came out with. I also own a dc lvl4 xl. and have acces to test a dd 3518 and a btl 3 slug. bigshane90
and as for sub up port up since im using external aeros i cant face ports up or i will break window line... but if i have been reading forums and it seems people have lots of success firing subs foward ports up. so if either one of these will give me gains than it is possible to do but i will have to do internal aeros. kirill007
That's probaly why the scored hasn't jumped up that much. Not enough port area. bigshane90
That's what I thought but some guys claim the aeros are more efficient than slots so I wouldn't need more...? Am I going to get more gain doing say 5cubes at 40hrtz straped as oposed to 7cubes with more port area off of one amp? What I am wanting to do is at least 148 to 149 on music. So far I've done 146 flat in the 7cube box with two aeros? What do I need to do to reach this? So far I've done 146 flat in the 7cube box with two aeros? What do I need to do to reach this? I'd definatly go with 16 sq. in. of port per cubic foot. Aero ports do sound better than slots. (IMO) But I always use slot ports for price and area. Those trucks are hard to get loud, Just like Expeditions. It's all with set up and tuneing though. I've done a 148.5 in my old bronco II with 4 powerbass PS-10's and an MD3D. Just try different combos man.Start with port area. Quote C.A.R.
