4 Noobish Questions?

Recommended Posts

alright guys so I've got four questions here,

1. how big do 45 degree corners have to be, like does the height/width matter?, I've seen some that just do little wedges in the corners to others that place a piece of mdf like this

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb107/s13driftfiend/014.jpg

top left corner big piece of mdf, other two look like wedges.

2. how do you reinforce your box with resin and glass mat?, does the resin go first, glass mat second then another cover of resin??? and what do you apply the resin with?

3. where would one buy 29oz glass mat? I've seen topics regarding that, they post links to the sites but once on the site i get lost and don't know what to look for.

4. what can i use to round off corners/edges?

sorry if the questions have already been asked but i couldn't find much help searching through the posts. well any info will be greatly appreciated.

1. big as you want them to be. Just calculate them into the displacement in torres calc when you build the box so you can tune correctly and have the right size needed.

2. lay the matt where you want it, then mix the resin and apply with a paintbrush. A cheap paintbrush.. Because unless you have acetane on hand its basically a 1 time deal with a brush. You can get cheap 2 inch brushes at home depot for like a buck.

3. check your local hardware store.

4. bullnose router bit should do the trick. lowes or home depot have em for like 30 bucks or so. You need a router too. Or, sandpaper, but good luck.

oh i see thx for the good info bro, one more little thing how would i calculate the displacement of the 45 degree corners?? :pardon: well since you leave a gap behind it.

treat it like a triangular prism and find the volume, then times that by how many you have = displacement.

Pretend the gap isn't there....as if it were a solid piece...

And when calculating displacement, don't count the 45 in the port...

alright sir guess i wont input that displacement into torre's calculator.

also sorry to bring it back up but i have more questions :peepwall: ,

1. when sanding whether it'd be edges or cutout holes what grit should i use???

2. when applying dowel bracing do you screw it down lol or how do you do it for it to stay in place??? caulk, wood glue?? and if im doing an enclosure with a port in the middle when doing the dowel bracing would i also use a dowel from enclosure wall to port wall??? that wouldn't put pressure on the port wall would it??? idk just a thought probably doesn't...

3. displacement of a 1 inch dowel would be (ex. I'm using a 1 inch dowel 3.14x.5x.5xL right??? or am i completely off?)

also sorry to bring it back up but i have more questions :peepwall: ,

1. when sanding whether it'd be edges or cutout holes what grit should i use??? lowest grit you can, 60-80 grit will be good.

2. when applying dowel bracing do you screw it down lol or how do you do it for it to stay in place??? caulk, wood glue?? and if im doing an enclosure with a port in the middle when doing the dowel bracing would i also use a dowel from enclosure wall to port wall??? that wouldn't put pressure on the port wall would it??? idk just a thought probably doesn't...wood glue and a screw on each end. bracing top to bottom wont be very important because the port walls already brace it. bracing the port wall is a good idea

3. displacement of a 1 inch dowel would be (ex. I'm using a 1 inch dowel 3.14x.5x.5xL right??? or am i completely off?) you are correct.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

alright so eighty grit it is, and cool i don't have to worry about bracing top to bottom, what about front to back(depth)? and when you said it was a good idea to brace port, did you mean through the port or from enclosure wall to port?? lol i confused myself on that one. oh and im set on calculating the displacement. thx bro really appreciate your help.

you can just use the dowels from outside wall to port wall or do a piece if allthread through the entire thing.
