Today is the worst day of my life.

nah its just where our social security checks go. i think im going to try to find a small apartment and my sister is going to move in with my grandparents, or possibly her "bff"

ok help me out here a lil bit sweetie, im trying to help you gather money where it's due. "our SS checks" are both you and your sister on SSI because of a disability or is it survivor benefits from your father?

The years hes worked he's been paying in for his retirement, since he is deceased you, your sister are entitled to benefits. My bad they've changed it since my brother passed . its no longer up to age 25.

Who can get child's benefits

Your child can get benefits if he or she is your biological child, adopted child or dependent stepchild. (In some cases, your child also could be eligible for benefits on his or her grandparents’ earnings.)

To get benefits, a child must have:

  • A parent(s) who is disabled or retired and entitled to Social Security benefits; or
  • A parent who died after having worked long enough in a job where he or she paid Social Security taxes.

The child also must be:

  • Unmarried;
  • Younger than age 18;
  • 18-19 years old and a full-time student (no higher than grade 12); or 18 or older and disabled. (The disability must have started before age 22.)

Now since your mom has passed, your sister is entitled to survivor benefits from your mother AND father cause she is still a minor child.

Applying for Child Benefits Information

FOR YOU Information You'll Need When You Apply for the Lump-Sum Death Benefit

Second, if there's no eligible spouse to receive the payment, the lump sum can be paid to the worker's child (or children) who was:
  • receiving benefits on the deceased worker's earnings record during the month in which the worker died; or
  • eligible to receive benefits.

And if your mom herself was receiving a check it may have to be returned since its only the 2nd day in the month.

A one-time payment of $255 can be paid to the surviving spouse if he or she was living with the deceased; or, if living apart, was receiving certain Social Security benefits on the deceased's record. If there is no surviving spouse, the payment is made to a child who is eligible for benefits on the deceased's record in the month of death.

Really sorry for your loss man, she was very young too. Both my mom and dad aren't in the best of health, both have had some kind of surgery. My mom is actually having neck surgery next week. I agree with everyone else that you and your sis need to stay together to keep each other strong.

i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

Wow I could not imagine going through what you are right now. I am so impressed by the people in this forum though and I am very proud to be a member of this forum/family. I will keep an eye on this thread and if something gets set up I will help out how ever I can. On a personal not to the op if you need some one to talk to and just vent hit me up with a pm and I will give you my info. I lost my Dad not to long ago. We saw it coming though so it was expected. I don't know if I could have kept my cool like you did if I had found him like you found your mom. I have a-lot of respect for you for thinking of your sister in that situation and not freaking out. I know when he passed it helped me out a bunch to just vent all that I was thinking. I know I am a stranger to you but I just thought I would put it out there. You have a huge family here in the SMD forum that is here for you if you need it. Keep your head up and stay strong bro.
