Jakeanator12
so my sub is rated at 350 rms. probably around 170 for each coil. I'm just wondering, is it safe to run this sub off of a 2 ohm mono? And if you guys have any ideas for what amp i should look at? Thx for you time! Cardboardcat15
Subwoofer is a DVC 4 ohm, wire the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load. http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=1&I=42#results An example of a compatible amplifier. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9852_Rockford+Fosgate+Punch+P300-1.html Name/brand of woofer? EDIT: and to answer your question, yes it is safe, as long as the amplifier is 2 ohm stable. Edited September 14, 2010 by Cardboardcat15 Quote My Channel on YouTube. Jakeanator12
will this amp here be an overkill at 400rms @ 2ohm? thanks again for all the help!
Skullz
You could no doubt get away with running an RF prime 500 or an alpine m500 on that thing with no problem, just thought id toss that out there for ya. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rockford-Fosgate-R500-1-Prime-500-Watt-Mono-Amplifier-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a5e5c1166QQitemZ250691195238QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo#ht_1917wt_1018 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Alpine-MRP-M500-/110585845431?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item19bf6e16b7#ht_500wt_1182 Quote 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2

Jakeanator12
Thanks for the input Skullz and NRG. I'm planning on making my own box useing RE Enclosure Calculator. NRG Do you have the same sub? Thx!
white4d96
Ick, don't use RE, it's really really inaccurate. Use Torres' calc, its stickied in the subwoofer/enclosure subforum. Quote Too many projects, too little time...
NRG
NRG Do you have the same sub? Thx! I dont sorry i have the Pioneer TS-W 3004 SPL powered by an alpine pdx1.1000 with a secondry battery on a 100amp alternator with 4awg and recent 250amp anl fuse. kept popping the 80amp agu's lol friend of mine had 2 of your subs though powered by alpine mrd 605 i think it was and that was good too. as for box making well i learned that lesson in a hurry. i built a box to the sub specs and it was laaaaaaaaaaame. i then experimented and found that a big ported box had more boom. lots of info on the net and especially on here about boxes, Whats to loose really as you can only learn by mistakes and i gotta admit its fun too. After some experimenting i ended up with a double the size box with a slotted port and man does it bang for what it is
Jakeanator12
This will be my first box that i have made for myself and I'm expecting some mistakes to occur! lol thanks again for all the great input. i posted this question in subwoofers / enclosures but i was wondering if you guys knew if there is a difference is sound if i were to put the sub facing up in a "L ported" box compared to parallel to the port? if not. Thanks anyways!
