Does it make a difference?

I searched this some...

I was wondering if it makes a true sound difference if you mount your components in an enclosure? For example, i have a 95 civic 2door, and i have a set of memphis 5.25 m class components, i flush mounted the tweets in the door panel. My question is it going to make a big difference if i mount the woofer in the factory mount in the door verse maybe building a kick panel in the floor?

I have my focal components mounted in the floor of my hatch, and it seems that they have a lot of mid as well as highs. But ive never not had them in a kick panel so i dunno if it will change the sound?

Any help would be great thanks guys!!!

Car audio woofers are usually designed to play in an infinite baffle install since 99% of the time they end up in the doors of cars. This means they have quite stiff suspension considering the size, motor force and power handling because they expect that there will be little or no cone control provided by the enclosure.

If you stick these drivers in a small sealed enclosure they tend to sound very hollow and tinny because the box now provides additional loading on the cone and the driver can't achieve any really useful excursion.

Long story short, if you do kicks and still want good midbass from them, vent the back somehow or use an aperiodic membrane or similar.

Something that Ed told me that stuck with me is basically mid bass speakers mid range speakers high range speakers tweets fulls etc etc are actually made to be directional. So essentially the best thing for you to do is point them towards you.

This makes sense. I just wanna get the most out of whats in the car, being this is my daily driver, and i dont have a large budget at the moment. A kick panel would point them right at me, and venting it wouldnt be any issue. If this is the best option, ill build some kicks...

kicks are great for SQ. you can do sealed pods and get good midbass from them but they will need more power to do it, for the reasons boon listed. the pods need to be fairly large for the speaker's size.

you can port the pod just like you would on a sub box. or just simply keep it IB. its all up to you.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

Ill probably go sealed, i have a lot more power than needed for those. And i have 6.5s in the kicks of my hatch, so im sure getting a big enclosure for a 5.25 wont be an issue. Thanks for the advice guys.

Next question, would you go with a good set of 6x9s or some more 5.25 or 6.5 components in the rear? room isnt an issue either way its going to be a fiberglass enclosure back there...

:pardon:
