ptcary
Ok, need some advice... You guys know I had a hard time tuning the monster in the PT, hence the slight re-build that is going on with the ports. I have a second project going on, the new Mazda 3i. For reference- it is getting Eclipse 3-way components in the front doors, Eclipse 5"x7" in the rear doors and an Eclipse 10" sub in the trunk. Nothing crazy. My question is - the manual for the 10" sub has a nice design for a ported box tuned to 25 hz. It would be very easy to build, and I think I want to try it out. What do you guys know about a single 10" sub tuned to 25 hz? It will be getting just over it's RMS rating for power. Is this tune to low?, It has to be musical and also good for DVD movies. wL<3bass
For reference, JL recommends that the 13w1v2 (with a 21hz FS) be tuned to 26hz with an F3 of 26hz, it played very well in the low frequency region and still have plenty of topend output, but a very very good bottom-end for a speaker of its RMS. Just to give you an idea about low tuning and manufacture specs. So I think you'll be alright, and you said you want it for DVD use, you gonna need that extra lowend extension... I say go for it. Thanks! The Eclipse 10" has an FS of 22 hz and the manual shows they used Bass Box 6 Pro to get their response graph, and it looks pretty nice. +1 or 2 db all the way up to 100 hz with a slight bump right at 30 hz. I just have to decide if I want to give up trunk space vs just doing a very small sealed fiberglass enclosure on the side of the trunk. ptcary
Ok screw it, I'll give it a try. At least it is prefab, so I don't have to guess on the tuning. Some more questions, though.... The port is 34" long and the box is 40", will the inside port opening be to close to the wall and cause noise? (it is a 4" PSP aero flare). Does it matter if the sub is mounted near the inside port opening or should it be far from it? I am planning far from it, sub firing up and port firing to the side. This would place the sub and the point where the port exits the box close to each other. Socky
The port will be fine it will have 6in of breathing room. Generally you don't want the sub right by the port, it will cause the sub to unload.
