bad voltage drop

Recommended Posts

ok so im debating on getting a stinger 50 farad cap to go along with my sk-bt120 shuriken batt or do you think i should just get another batt to help keep higher voltage in my 96 tahoe??? current equipment is as fallows and alts are in the making

2-2100rms brz amps strapped / but only able to run one of them currently due to voltage dropping super low

1- sk-bt 120 shuriken 2600 amp batt

big 3 done

stock alt at this time

all tsunami 1/0 guage wiring

2- fully loaded Fi BTL 18s

20 cubic ft box tuned at 21hz

any suggestions??? could use the help A.S.A.P. please

Alt supplies power and batteries store it, if your dropping really low then you'll need a better alt to start off with and having a small bank of batteries to store enough capacity that voltage spikes don't occur from massive hard hits from the bass.

Batteries don't raise the initial (charging) voltage, they try to maintain it.

With all that power, get the biggest alt possible and upgrade the starter battery. If the charging voltage isn't what you want, get a voltage regulator from Mechman or MLA.

Ok I have plans to do a quad alt in the "HOE" here real soon any suggestions on where to get the brackets n such? Also is my stock alt really that crappy that it can't hardly run a 4200 watt amp or should I replace that alt as well?

try different grounding point on your big 3 or run a negative 0g from front to back. my hoes voltage will change with different grounding points and most definetly do 2 alternators if you can. i went 3 and its barely enough. a good high output alternator will make a huge difference. plus the hifonics amps are current hogs i had 1 2008 and it would drop with a 220 amp iraggi and 4 svr 3000 batterys

A quad alt for 4200wrms? Or do you plan on adding/upgrading amps, because that would be crazy if It were for your current system.

Try DC Power for the bracket. Don't expect it to come fast. Also ask Mechman. He may find a local Tahoe that he could test fit it in. You could look for local shops too.

The stock alt probably isn't shitty. It was just made to power your TRUCK, not a ton of extra shit that the average person wouldnt even consider buying

Its what, a 140 amp alt? Give or take 50% of that is used to maintain function in all electrical applications that come stock with the car.

This gives you ~70 amps for charging and supplying, when your amplifiers are demanding 420 amps at max, give or take a little. When the alt cannot supply the demand asked, voltage will drop. When you're short 350 amps, yeah you might drop a ... Lot lol
