AMI CUSTOMS
So you're telling me tuning the box lower won't help play the lows louder and deeper? From personal experience, a box tuned at 31hz playing in the 28-33 region is going to sound a hell of a lot better than a box tuned to 37. Not on L7's it won't and not in that box he has there. Won't help. AND that theory/personal experience depends on driver used, enclosure, VEHICLE, and if the subs actually like playing lower. cthedinger
Box size is fine, you just need way more port, try to get at least 18 sq inches of port per cube at a bare minimum but I would shoot for 20 sq inches of port per cube. From personal experience, a box tuned at 31hz playing in the 28-33 region is going to sound a hell of a lot better than a box tuned to 37. hes saying tuning a badly designed box wont magically make it better. he knows how to get some L7s loud too btw. I would screw down a board over the port and see if it improves as a sealed box. seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
tacomabanga1986
more port area means more air movement witch means more sound getting out of box to make shit move all over the place ported boxs are to complicated for me this is why i like sealed boxs , they play lows, highs, mids, everything but not as loud as ported but most ported boxs only play loudly around there tuning or so has mine so far, the only box that i kno of that plays everything loud is a bandpass but there more stuff to get into anyways good luck on ur box, i took the box mtx recomends for my subs and put it on the re box calc and it said it was tuned to 23htz and if that is so it didn't play lows worth a damn, but port area helps with that if i was u ied move port from back of box on top to bottom of the box on the end where hatch opens so u can get more port area without getting into where the subs are mounted, and will sound better also, keep subs up but port back with more port area but befor u build a new box ied turn the box str8 up like a wall n see how it sounds befor u take it out if it will fit for the hell of it here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit

You are talking like 250 inches of port area, that is to much. bobmcbob_345
To small of a box. And not even close enough for port area. You want at least 14 square inches per cube for port area. I have 195 square inches for 7.5 cube box. That is not nearly enough you would need at least 200 square inches of prt area for it to work well. irpirate
im willing to build a new box, but id like to see my options before i do. ill definitely try adding to the port length and/or trying it sealed before i build the new one though. the box i have now leaves literally no room for anything. so either i go above my seats or give up the back seats for a bigger box. if i keep my back seats problem comes in where to mount the subs and where to put the port. 31 depth leaves me very little room to make the port any bigger if i do subs up port up (maybe 1.5-2 inches). if i do subs up port back the box will need to be shorter although i do think id be able to squeeze the subs up top. also ill defintely give the standing up a try even though id be kinda nervous itd tip over lol. hiiiiiiii2002 4runner - buncha speakers n amps n shit (gone)1994 astro - more stuffzupdate: pretty sure all the pic links in the logs are broken lol. ma slop garb build log16 12's 4th order4runner rebuild in progressclickkk meeeee!!!! 4 18's 6th orderUBL - clickyhttp://www.youtube.com/yyj11589 lots of hater kids here. AMI CUSTOMS
Here is what I did on (2) of the L7 15's, in the same size box you have with that same size port in my extended cab sierra. And I messed around with ports, all kinds of different stuff. tacomabanga1986
can u video tape what u got now so we can kinda see n hear what it sounds like to get an idea of what ur talking bout that dont sound right? ive went threw alot of boxs trying to find one that sounds right n aint so far, either one sounds better for one song but one sounds better for another song, shit gets annoying after a while but its what we do as audio gurus lol good luck on finding what u want in sound, im sticking with sealed boxs i guess here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
cthedinger
20 sq inches of port area per cube is a little much for those. You are talking like 250 inches of port area, that is to much. Since I could not find the xmax of the woofer on kickers site so it is hard to tell him how much port he really needs. Since port area shouldn't really be calculated by the size of the box, it should be calculated by the xmax of the woofer. If you have any questions PM me or Add me on Facebook CLICK ME!
