the way i see it sometimes, is the more the woofer has the ability to move, the higher port area you should have. but the big general rule of thumb is 12 to 16 square inches of port per cubic foot.

12" to 16" for a square or slot port, 9" to 11" on a round port and 7" to 9" for an aero port, Those will get you into the range for porting. Some subs like smaller ports while some other subs may like more port area to sound good at, it takes time and box building to find and learn what the sub you bought may like.

Most people will agree that you can use the volume to port is the way to go, 12-16 inches per cube for slot, not sure on round or aero. Xmax calculations can be tedious and don't always come out right. For instance, if you want 2 subs in a 6 cube net box, you might want upwards of 100 inches of port, but an xmax calculation might say you need 150 inches of port :trippy:

I like going by the XMAX. I have 14^2 of flared aero port per cube for my 12 and it loves it. Used the crappy rule of 7-9 per cube for aeros and it lost a shitload of sound and had so much damn port noise I didn't want to listen to it. This will get you a ballpark answer

So I was looking around on the kicker website and this is what I found...

They use 10.19^2 of port aera per ft^3. I have a gross volume of 14.18ft^3 so if I did the math right I should have 144.49^2 in total. They use 33.125^2 of port aera for a box with a net volume of 3.25ft^3

Please tell me if I did something wrong.
