New High Output Alternator Not Putting Out Proper Volts - Concern?

Recommended Posts

What does the voltage do when you turn the system on? And you are sure your battery is "good"?

i had a bad battery under my hood that was causing my external regulator for my alt hold around a half a volt or more less than what it was set to.

OK, so this is a bunch of videos with different settings (ac on, lights on, driving, stereo on etc etc). I'm going to send the company the same reply I'm posting here and see what they have to say compared to some replies I may get from you guys.

Amp meter is Klein Tools CL2000 set to DC Amps (picture shown of settings in case I'm wrong):

First video is driving down highway at 65 with no lights, no ac and no stereo on only showing volts which seem to be around 13-13.1

Second video is at idle with volt meter ground to battery and red lead to alternator and amp meter and then rpm taken to 2k:

Third video is ac on, lights on, stereo on volume 20 out of 40 with amp meter and volt meter:

Forth video is ac on and lights on at idle:

Bad alternator? Try to get a replacement or buy a different on?

Yeah the whole not putting out 14.4 for all companies is something I learned with mine being rebuilt.

I called the guy and was like what the fuck is wrong, why can't I get my 14.4... He said "That alternator, as do most of my alternators, charges at 14V solid..."

What is up with the voltage jumping around, bad regulator or really bad connection. If your connections are all tight and clean. I would say alt needs replaced. Is that a dc power or irragi alt, since I noticed it blue power coated.....

x2 i had a "165" amp alt and would drop below 13 at idle...amps, lights, ac/heater all off.

on a regular day i can drop to 12.4 idling at a stop light, no music, nothing. that alt is complete shit, im switching back to my stock one soon anyways. i miss having almost 15v in the winter LOL

ive seen this before. do u have a smart charger? try throwing your vehicle on a charger for a day or so or even overnight while u are asleep. then wake up and turn the vehicle on and see where u are at.

ive had REALLY dead batteries before and i was charging in the low mid 13s. charged them for a solid day on my smart charger and turned it on and i was at 14v charging. just something to try. bad batteries will also give u this result.

The battery is a sears platinum and is only about 2 months old but I'll give that a shot, Thanks.

Without throwing the name of the company out I'll try to contact them again. I'm one of those guys that don't like to trash a company until they get a chance to fix the issue HOWEVER I can say it's not from an ebay company. It came from a reputable provider, I think...lol.

thats respect bro, too many people have an issue and come on to the forums with their guns blazing.......and dont give the manufacturer or dealer time to resolve it first.
