is there a way to modify stock alt. to make more output voltage? i have an 89 accord lxi and im going to be seeing 1500+ rms soon and i have the stock alt. + stock battery. im willing to buy a second battery but im not willing to drop a bunch of money on an H.O alt. if i dont have to. anyone have any ideas or ways they can think to do this or is it or possible?

If you have to ask...

You're better off upgrading the starter battery and do the big 3. But stock alt is what....70 amps max?

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

You could take it to an alt specialty shop and have em rewind it, you still will probably only get like 170 amps max and thats with revving it. It still wont do much for you at idle.

Yes it is possible but it won't help anything once that amps starts to pull more current then the electrical system can supply. Higher voltage ONLY helps from an alt when you can supply the current demand. Meaning lets says your amp requires 100 amps to make peak power at 14.4 volts. If you are able to make more current then the demand the higher voltage will benefit the system. And this is only if the amp is unregulated. I can go on and on.....there is alot more to consider then just I want higher voltage out of a stock alt, basically it is a stupid idea.

i switched my old one out for whatever other working honda alt. i had sitting around. it could be between 60-90 amps. already did big 3

Have you upgraded your battery yet if not do that then add one in the back if needed, if you still have problems I think buying a high output would beat upgrading your existing one try Ohio Generator if you need an alternator.

no point in increasing voltage if your alt cant even output the power. upping voltage to 15v from 14v for example, when you were dropping to 12v on full tilt, you will still drop to 12v. no point.

i have my RF 200a4 (outputs a good 300-350rms) and my ap 1500 which outputs 1500rms and i have a stock battery, 70 amp alt, and big 3 in 1/0 gauge. i can drop to 12.5 EASY while driving, but it doesnt really bother me.

I thought when u raise the voltage it takes less amps to make the same power. Like when auto manufacturers were going to go to 42volt systems they could make all the cars wires smaller cause there would b less current draw

Yes and no, Yes it does because it is based off an equation that is always true, ohms law. But, NO, if you already have voltage issues, ei 2 volts of drop, raising voltage isn't going to help at all, it will still drop to the same amount.
