How Much Port Area?

Well, I wanted to run 2 Fi Q 12's, but that won't happen. I only have 4.5 Cubes to work with.

That said, I need the bort area for one Fi Q 12. I want it to be high SQ, but I also want a fair amount of bang. However, SQ is the main objective. What frquendcyw ould be good for that? I've heard both 28 and 32. Also, I guess that I'll go for 2.5 cubic feet (the max size recommended).

What port area do I need for both 28 and 32 HZ?

that's 9 to 14 for an aero port and 12 to 16 for a slot port.

and fret over the tuning so much, personally i'd shoot for 30.

Use torres calculator to figure out how long that needs to be for you. keep your net cubes where you want em (2.5) and the square inches of port in the range you want em (12 to 16 for a slot port)

Since you have enough room, go with 35-40 sqin tuned to 30 Hz.

And FYI - port area is not related to box volume.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

That seems sorta small.

it's not small. it's cross sectional area. square inches

if i were telling you overall port volume i woulda said cubic inches

what you want is say. 30 square inches of slot port for 2.5 cubes, that's 10x3xhowever long you need for your tuning as an example.

30 divided by 2.5 is 12 so that's at the bottom of the range.

aero ports 10-12SQ^2 per FT^3

slot port 10-14SQ^2 per FT^3

Woah, way off dude.

This is what I've heard from someone:

12" to 16" for a square or slot port, 9" to 11" on a round port and 7" to 9" for an aero

Not sure if that's right at all, it doesn't sound like it. The general rule of 12-16 per cube for slots is alright, but I like more port, so I go with 14-20 per cube. As far as tuning, you can use the torres box tuning calculator, I like WinISD Beta though.

And if you're hung up on whether to tune to 28 or 32Hz, just tune to 30Hz. If you think it's too low, then you can tune it higher it's as easy as shortening the port up.
