Reasons not to Buy Peel & Seal???

Today i deadened my trunk lid with some Foam and Some Peel & Seal, My trunk lid rattle was so fuckin sick. But after 2 cans of foam and Peel & Seal i'd say about 95% of those rattles that i could hear while inside my car are now gone. My guess is when i completely fill the lid with more foam they'll go away.

The smell wasnt that strong neither, maybe cause its cold?

All in all the experience so far hasnt been bad, Why is everyone here so Anti-Peel & Seal? is it because its Cheap? or do most of you just see it as taking the easy way out cause its not actually "meant for car audio" :pardon:

this was a pm sent to me by a mod here when i asked him the cons of peel and seal. unfortunately i had just gotten done using it and i want it off... here it is

its going to smell awful. It wont stick unless your prepwork is exceptional and its going to take about four layers to equal a quality deadener. By that time you are at the same price if not more than you would be with the deadener. Also not a fan of roofing material in my car know what i mena.

also in another note you get what is it 25 sq ft for 16$ and price to sq ft its better to go with other stuff

I don't fuck around. I go from zero to I hope you die in less than 2 posts

I'm no expert, but I've used peel and seal.. and in the hot new mexico summer, the smell was hardly noticeable. it was strong at first, but i'd say 2-3 days after installing it the smell went away. As for deadening, it really isn't on par with dynamat, fatmat, etc... But if you don't mind the weight of 2 layers of peel and seal, it's about as effective.

yeah im not gonna lie it added a ton of weight to my trunk but i didnt notice the rattle go away. i still wish i could have all the money back i spent on peel and seal. weather stripping around the lip of the trunk works great though fyi

edit: no. when i picked up the full roll i could smell it 2 feet from my nose but no in my car there was no smell and i went through 100 degree heat with 100% humidity. it stuck too surprisingly but it only had 1 week of hot weather i dont wanna know if itl make it through all next summer

multiple reasons but the basics are this. the performance will never be able to match a true quality made deadener. ever. no matter how many layers are used, it sadly will not meet those expectations. and how could it? it is not what it is designed for.

the biggest one for me is because it is a cheap alternate route. i dont care whether or not i was broke or had money, quality is quality. much in the same way i will not wear shoes that have four stripes....or jackets sewn by illegals at the swap meet. my system is an extension of my passion in a vehicle, which is an extensions of me. i dont care how others see it, i see it as tacky and cheap. just personal preference here, and i am good at putting in good shit.

im lucky enough to have money, have a life, and afford my vehicles and all the entail. but i can remember my first time building a setup, using old school image dynamic 12s powered off of an old school planet audio 400x2 and loving my stuff. needed some deadener. guess what i did? i saved up and did piece by piece. now, when doing a vehicle. deadener and the electrical are the FIRST things i do. i dont even buy the equipment unless time provides me a good deal and ensure i build from the foundation up.

but thats just me.

i understand your logic TeamHT

These were my reasons today for going ahead and buyin the shit.

1. i seriously couldnt take the Effin trunk lid rattle anymore.

2. I seriously didnt wanna wait who knows how long for some deadner to be shipped.(Being its the holidays)

3. The rattle from the trunk lid was driving me fucking crazy

yeah, i get why people do it. but i could NEVER be happy with that outcome. its personal preference, and youre going to feel one way or the other. but thats how i learned how to do installs. after my first setup i made a list of how things are important and in what order. before putting serious bump in my truck i ordered 150sq ft of damp pro. after being tboned and having to redo a lot of the truck, i bought 200 sq ft of rattletrap. and this was BEFORE putting any of the subs or wiring in. just how i work.

i know how many people hate peel and seal and to start i thought it was genius. now i see the hard way (ok nothing bad happened but im saying this figuratively) that peel and seal really isnt worth it. when people said it takes many layers to = the real thing i didnt care. when people said it smelled i said i was tough i would live with it. when they said it would fall off i chanced it. so far none of those happened to me but somebody did the math that i said in the first quote how you get 25 sq ft for 16$ which isnt a good deal compared to the real stuff that works and now i regret my decision.

At lowe's hardware, it's $14 for 6" x 25ft, that's 12.5 sq ft for $14, or $1.12 per sq ft, since u need two layers, that's $2.24 sq ft.. Dynaliner is $75 for 12 sq ft, or $6.25 per sq ft.. it's 3 times as expensive... i don't know how $16 per sq ft wasn't a good deal compared to real deadner..
