slow240sx Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Been pouring rain most of the day here. Had car outside @ work. 1/2 hour before closing I pulled car into bay and popped hatch. Wiped down sub box and closed hatch a few min later. When I left work I had radio on but volume @ 0. Couple minutes later was talkin to my girl and started hearing a weird poppin noise. Sounded like something hittin the door. I thought I hit something cause it was pouring out & I couldn't see too good. Then I. Was like, no, that's coming from my mid in door. Turned radio up, bass was on but popping sound out mids was louder. I turned around and kept seeing red light flashing on my zx350 phoenix gold amp. I shut radio off and pulled over. Put my hand on it & it was pretty wet. My car don't leak but I assume when I popped the hatch, some water must of dripped out of the weatherstrip channel and directly on amp and I didn't see it. Its dark now, but ill try to heat dry it tomorrow & see if I can c something blown on circuitboard. I've fixed a few amps before and can solder pretty good. Had this amp long time(bout mid 90's). Its got gold plated epoxy board, pretty badass amp for the size. Was supposed to go to this new car meet and spl competition tomorrow night. Only other mid/hi amp I got layin around is a pos alpine 50x4 or 90x2 bridged. Not really enough power for my 4 selenuim mids but I might try it just to have some mids if I can't fix pg amp by tomorrow, which I doubt. 99 GMC Suburban 2 Death Penalty 21" 2 Crescendo BC2000 Boston GT-42 Amp 6 Selenium 6w4p 4 Crescendo tweets Hi output cs144 alt Audiocontrol Epic-160 Pioneer DVD head unit

slow240sx Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 Well, its dark out now, & can't really see too much. It wasn't soaked but was damp for sure. Ill pull it out tomorrow and post a pic if I can see something burnt on the board 99 GMC Suburban 2 Death Penalty 21" 2 Crescendo BC2000 Boston GT-42 Amp 6 Selenium 6w4p 4 Crescendo tweets Hi output cs144 alt Audiocontrol Epic-160 Pioneer DVD head unit

EclipseChris Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Why did you have to wipe down the sub box if you say your hatch doesn't leak? i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Tercel build R.I.P. Eclipse build Old New V-Dub My feedback.
slow240sx Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 Ya, I hope I can fix it, it was a nice clean amp. Even had it runnin 1 ohm stereo a few years back and it ran flawlessly. My buddy even used it @ 1.5 ohm mono on 2 8w7's and it pushed them suprisingly good without even gettin hot at all(has built in fan) 99 GMC Suburban 2 Death Penalty 21" 2 Crescendo BC2000 Boston GT-42 Amp 6 Selenium 6w4p 4 Crescendo tweets Hi output cs144 alt Audiocontrol Epic-160 Pioneer DVD head unit

Its almost all out. I just wiped it off with a paper towel but there was no water on box. slow240sx Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 Good news. I put a heat gun on the amp & let it dry for the weekend. Turned it on last night & its back to working perfectly. Its a 14 year old amp and still kickin again! 99 GMC Suburban 2 Death Penalty 21" 2 Crescendo BC2000 Boston GT-42 Amp 6 Selenium 6w4p 4 Crescendo tweets Hi output cs144 alt Audiocontrol Epic-160 Pioneer DVD head unit
