GymJunkie Posted January 16, 2011 Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 Growing up, my mom only ever tipped food delivery drivers and the waiters/waitresses, i noticed you guys mentioned tipping mechanics and tire guys and my roommate always tips whoever cuts his hair so it got me thinking...who all is it customary to leave a tip for? melonhead Posted January 16, 2011 Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 I double the tax when eating at a restaurant and leave that as the tip and I tip a $1 or $2 when getting a haircut. I'll also tip a $1 or $2 for the pizza delivery driver as well. Other than that I don't tip anyone else. Tipping a mechanic or someone who installs tires seems a little strange. nautical7 Posted January 16, 2011 Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 I used to tip the person who cut my hair (before I started doing it myself) about $3-4 and when ordering take-out I'll tip $3, and about $3-5 if I ever order pizza. I'm a part time server so I understand how people in those positions usually make minimum and the tips are basically there pay. When I serve I only make $3.45/hr and most of that goes to paying taxes, so I depend on making tips to make any money. And I always tip 20% or more unless they absolutely suck, then it's 15%. Now it is used as gratitude for good service so i tip anyone who provides a service that makes me feel that they deserve of a tip. Also i dont follow a guideline on the amount its what i feel is necessary. I have been a waiter and now i work at AutoZone and do all sorts of shit for free (wipers, headlight/brake lights, discounts just so people will be happy) so I know what it's like. But if I go in to Applebees or Olive Garden and am constantly out of drink or something like that I don't tip at all. But if they are extremely busy and still manage to come to my table a few times I will tip a little, and if I never have to go without drink/bread sticks I will tip very generously.
