I'm glad you know all about this. I had no idea simple things could make or break you. I'm pretty sure other people didn't know about this either. This is pretty common knowledge to anyone that is halfway serious about competing... Im curious to see testing on the flush mount, and duct tape on sub theories... I know what it did (NOTHING) for me... Lol... Just curious to see if it does anything for you... Hey boil, yes i´m gonna try this things also as soon as i stop been lazy and take out my 4 12´s box, in the past, i tried duct tape around the subs and didn´t gain ANYTHING while there are other people that gained tons, every application it´s different, maybe they gained because the sub hole was to big and it was leaking air, i don´t know, i can asure this , if i get duct tape around this sub I´M GONNA GAIN A LOT because i cut that hole drunk as hell and it´s leaking a lot hahahhaa About the flush mount, i guess it would gain me a lot also because of the same reason, i think i´m gonna cut a new baffle first and make a nice tight sub hole so i stop the leakings before testing the duct tape and flush mount to see if it really gain or not!! Im new to competition and new to SPL but not really new to car audio and still learned a little something. Very informative and im staying tuned! Thanks bro My pleasure man, glad this can be helpful, i honestly haven´t beginning again with this testings because the POS box it´s almost dead, my best friend took it to try a single 10" sub and the box is all messed up, leaks, no glue, very few screws, etc etc etc, i´m waiting for some money to build a 2 cubic feet box and start testing again, i have a few things i wanna try so get back here in a couple of weeks maybe, i give you my word that this topic is no way near to it´s end P.S: I´m not a big expert neither, i´ve built a lot of boxes in the past (including SPL comps boxes) but it´s the first time i can do some serious research, so i´m learning tons of things with this little "project" I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. About bracing, in my 3 10´s box and 4 12´s box it helped a lot, maybe on a single 12" box it could hurt , so , as tons of other things, i guess it depends on the application. I know i haven´t done anything new on this topic, it´s just that i was moving to another apartment and also office, but for your information guys, i´m gonna build a new box for a single 12" TODAY, the POS box is going to the garbage now hehe. Said that, let´s get some new inputs, i have a couple of other things i need to try, Hugh G Reaction´s idea about inverting the sub and covering the sub pole hole are going to get tested right away, a couple of guys asked me to try flush mounting the sub so that´s coming also, duct taping the sub is gonna get tested before flush mounting and after so we can see the difference, routing the edges of the box and also the sub hole it´s going to be at the end of all the testing, ONCE AGAIN, give me some inputs guys, whatever you want me to try I´LL FUCKING DO IT!!!!!!! This is a great topic for guys that don´t have acces to a termlab and always wanted to try a couple of things you saw on the forums hehe, cheers!!! fecupe2001 Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 23, 2011 Updating this topic a little bit, i sold the POS box believe it or not, that box is bass racing on the 139.9 bass race class with a single Crossfire BMF and an hifonics 1200 watts amplifier Anyways, i built a new POS box without glue again so i could change port areas and everything else without sweating, once again, this topic isn´t for breaking any world record, just for trying out things, remember that it might work on this application but not on another one, so keep in mind that EVERY system is different!!! To the subject... Before selling the old box, i installed the DD 2512 on it, remember it was 1.5 cubic feet with a single 4" port, box sucked for the DD but it was great on the crossfire, the crossfire sucked ass with 2 4" ports on that box, so i tried out the DD with 2 ports and saw a HUGE gain, i knew box wasn´t the best for the DD 2512 because of the size and port area, remember that port area is affected mostly because of the sub xmax, after that, i knew the box needed to be bigger with this amount of power and with a lot more port area. New box: 2 cubic feet and 2 4" ports with a 39 hz tuning, i retuned the port a couple of times and it definitly liked to be tuned at 39 hz just like the old POS box!! Box´s score without glue, 45´s ,resin or ANYTHING yet: After this, i tried the ports inside the box to shrink the internal space to around 1.8 cubic feet, ports were a little longer so i could be tuned at 39 hz, i retuned with ports inside and outside of the box and best number i could get was this, my DD 2512 seems to love a big box in this truck I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
