Thanks a lot bro, the idea of this topic was to help people as much as i could, about the people that doesn´t wanna share, well, i totally respect that, i mean, is not easy or cheap getting this kind of knowledge,so i can understand why they don´t want to share it...

Does anyone know if these type of gains will be consistant at any output level? Say you gain 2 tenths from the duct tape if you start at 140; would you gain the same at 150? 160?. Depending on time I may post some similar results. One of my friends has a wall with 4 15's. His best score has been 158. We would like to see 160 so perhaps some simple, cheap tweaks can get us there? He is testing duct-tape around the baskets and on pole vent today... we plan to test some rounding inside, then smoothing screw holes and a few other small things.

Also wondering how much of these "gains" are due to lowering impedence and getting more power from the amp? In retrospect clamped power numbers would have been useful. Perhaps do some impedence measurements for the next round.

I do believe that nothing is linear in this car audio world. But I've been wrong numerous times so don't trust me. LoL

Say you gain 0.2 going from 140.0-140.2 with duct tape, I think there are far too many other factors that take place to see the same linear gain trying to go from 160.0-160.2.

But then again it could work the total opposite and the placement of your duct tape fixed a major flaw that you were not aware of and you just gained 0.5. LoL

Only way to find out is to do it.

Perfect, as the pressure is immensely higher (140 to 160dB) the gain with sealing will be smaller and smaller, let's say 1dB at 140dB equals 0.2dB at 160dB. In favour of accurate testing, I'd say ALWAYS measure power when testing, and recharge the system (while letting it cool down for a couple minutes after every burp).

Quick question, did you ever hard fill and vinyl over the second port hole that you cut, or did you only cut mdf and placed on outside? i was thinking if you still have that box and the mdf on the outside covering the hole, to go ahead and fill the inside of that hole and smooth it to the surrounding wood, and vinyl over it, so it acts like there's no hole at all.

I was gonna do that actually, but the box had so many holes that i just sold it, still, i would have won a few tenths by doing that for sure!!

Thanks mate, yeah you have no idea how it is to own a termlab, i´ve saved tons of money on boxes that wouldn´t work, i´ve won tons of money by charging people 10$ to meter their cars, i even was a judge on a couple of small shows where they payed me even 200$ to take my TL and use it, i strongly suggest people getting a TL, not only if you compete, but also because you can get louder everytime you build something new

Just to throw this out here. A friend of mine recently came into some money and went out and broke the bank with a home theater system. He bought B&W speakers and I noticed that they all have dimples on their flared ports. Not sure what the purpose of this is or what it does in practice, but if a company like that does it there may well be some merit to the idea:

In other news I was inspired by a few of the ideas in this thread and built a new box right after using some strategicaly placed flares. I missed my tuning by about 10hz on the low side, but it turned out to be the best sounding box I've ever built. It was total fail on the meter since it brought my tuning down about 16/17 cycles below my proper peak, but was definitely worth the wood.

Have you tried shur tape, fecupe?

It's a metal backed tape that is really strong and is used a lot over here in the states to seal stuff up and smooth surfaces out.
