toadking90 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 make it wider and not as long then the tuning is way off
MrSkippyJ Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 the box i am designing is going to be 6 cub's. so to make a port big enough for that with 12 per foot at 18.5 inches tall for port which is the max i can go upwards and 4 wide it has to be 20 inches long to make it to the 37 hertz tuning freq. i am trying to get it down to 35. my box can be no bigger than 20 total outer dem. so my port is not possible at 12 per foot. what do i do about that? just not go for 12 ? do maybe 8 or somthing? you are talking about tuning and port area as being related, they aren't. THe lower you want your tuning, the longer you have to make the port. The MORE port area you have, the more port length you need for lower tuning. The box size isn't important, what subs are your running? MrSkippyJ Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 make it wider and not as long that would raise his tuning. F150: Stock 2019 Harley Road Glide: Amp: TM400Xad - 4 channel 400 watt Processor: DSR1 Fairing (Front) 6.5s -MMats PA601cx Lid (Rear) 6x9s - TMS69

A port on the front on the side is the easiest way to get the proper port area AND proper length you need. The thing (at least one thing) you need to consider with port area is the excursion of your sub. I really don't know how you figure it up, if you are running T3 stuff, ED is a good source for that. The port area allows air to flow (duh) and the more air (more excursion) the more area you need. The tuning is completely unrelated to that. Tuning deals with the length of the port. Yes, smaller ports need to be shorter, but you don't adjust your port area for tuning. You pick the appropriate port area as for your subs, then decide the length to tune. I am FAR FAR FAR from a port expert, and probably have something incorrect here. I am sure someone will correct me and help you out also. You should be ok giving a slot port between 12 and 16sqin per cube. Just understand that the 2 aren't really related, it's just what most people use. RAM_Designs Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 The box size isn't important, what subs are your running? ??? Box size, port area(and shape), and desired tuning frequency are the three things that are going to affect how long the port needs to be.
