As I understand it, Columbus was the only town with one. Wait!!! I live in Columbus. They put that thing in the dumbest intersection. You would think they would have put it on the main strip on the light that EVERYBODY runs???? Nope- they put it in an intersection in the hood where there is very little traffic. Maybe just to try it out. Oh, and on to the welfare.... the largest employer in MS is MS Welfare. No wonder we are the poorest state with crappy education, roads and so on. How the hell can we get anything worth a crap when there are so many folks on "the draw"??? DAH!!!! I dunno about the cameras though- they never really bothered me for some reason. I know big brother and all of that jazz- but at intersections, I actually think it is a good idea. Maybe not for tickets, but for security why not? Or maybe the police (in my hometown especially) actually stop people for running lights!!! off rant.

No joke! Here in North MS we are flooding like mad! They have already blocked off 4 roads in town because they know that they will flood. It hasn't even rained today. We are getting ready for what TX got. I work on call on computers and network systems so- I hate the power outages that come with storms. I do love watching lightning as long as it isn't a destructive storm. I have seen more than my fair share of tornadoes. Good luck to everybody in all of these storms!

Not trying to thread jack at all Neo frog (you, boon, ptcary, charger and the hoopty got me inspired for this design) I am doing everything I can think of on the van to get it 100% before I do the wall. Once I start on the wall, everything else is off. I mean, it could be sitting on 4 flat tires and I wouldn't care as long as I was doing the wall. I work slow anyway so I won't post pics until I am almost done. I see very painful things in store for your PT Neo frog. Another question I have- what about distance from front of baffle/inside front baffle to wall/wall to horn terminus/terminus to window? Like so: I know this is for peak spl numbers, but couldn't you use this same thing for a clamshell? My wall will be too far back for the windshield, but your pt.... that is a different story.

I watch lots of the History channel and one day they had a show on cars. Well- I couldn't miss that one! So me, the TV and some doritos. All was great until they talked about the rear view mirror thing and showed some crash photos. Not hungry for doritos after that. lol

Bump for this. I am about to be shooting in the dark with a clamshell too. I have wondered about the loading as well. If you use the sealed vehicle to do most or all of the loading- then it will play like crap whenever the doors are open or the windows are down! I drive my vehicle, so that defeats the purpose. I was leaning towards your way of thinking Boon- build the back of the port way on the small side and go from there. Seems that is the definition of a horn anyway. Use the small part of the port to help load the subs and the horn to amplify it. If it sounded like butt, just get in there and cut out the port 1/2 inch at a time.

Yep- I was going to say that but you beat me to it. You get a good enough glue to hold it to the glass, the only thing really left to break is the glass itself (if your stereo can do it). I have seen it before too. Another thing you could try.... in older vehicles, the rear view mirror was bolted to the metal roof above the windshield. No glue- bolts. You would have to make something or find one somewhere and hide it behind your headliner. Here is one from a 50s ish truck: \ Now the reason they glue them now instead of bolting them in- (it's kinda' gruesome) When people would have head on collisions or wrecks or what have you, their head would hit the mirror (again- BOLTED to the roof) and the mirror would break off and their heads would get stuck on the little metal piece that holds the mirror. Glued on mirrors break off when your head hits them. So- you could try that if you really want a mirror, but I vote with the other people- delete it and get used to driving with just your side mirrors.

I love the way the site looks, that it is running almost 24/7/365 despite of the volume of traffic, the way the forum is organized, that there are mods, that the mods do their jobs WELL, and that constructive criticism is what goes on by members 99.9 % of the time. There is always a build or work going on that keeps car audio fresh and keeps me on fire. Steve, your dedication to your hobby and your respect for others in Audio definitely shows- and the proof is this Forum. WOOT!

I know, right?! I was really surprised. Like 120K miles of road grime that I thought was impossible to remove actually came off with just a bit of scrubby scrubby.

I just realized I should have put this in the Interior / Exterior section because this isn't my build yet. Sorry- if a mod cares to move it, please do. Today I worked on my running boards. Don't laugh. My grandmother put them on there before she gave me the van years and years ago. I said don't laugh. She will need the redone steps when she gets in it when I give her a demo. I cleaned them really well, took what was left of the old black tape off, and put non-skid tape on them. Pics: 3 before photos... bleh! Might be one of those people who just hate bass. Some people can't stand it- you know the type. Eh... maybe you bumped it too loud one day and knocked one of her collectible plates she is so fond to eat from off of the wall.

Shouldn't take more than a minute to properly warm it up. If it runs with a cold carb, the choke will keep the engine running by constricting the air and dumping gas. So, it will run- but poorly and suck gas like crazy. The colder a carb and motor is, the more gas it needs to run. Relying on a choke to run on is treating for the symptom and not to cure. You still need to get everything to a proper operating temperature faster. What temp thermostat were you / will you be running? A thermostat that is too cold will make it harder to warm up, by opening too soon.

A properly set up mechanical choke works well, but the electric ones do work better. $$ more though- The easiest way to warm up the carb is to have a hose that runs from your exhaust manifold to your air filter holder. They sell them at all of the auto stores. Most if not all older GMs had this. It pulls just enough warmth from the manifold to warm up the carb. Once the inlet air in that hose reaches a certain temp, a coil moves a louver shut, blocking most of the warm air. Go to a junk yard and look for an air cleaner assembly for your v8 that will fit under the hood and look for one with the warm air inlet. Golden.

When my Astro van (v6) got holes in the muffler from rust and age, it sounded like complete crap. Total Complete Crap. I was curious what it would sound like without a muffler and the guy at the shop let me crank it up with just the cat- no muffler. It wasn't that loud and he ran a straight pipe instead of the muffler for like no $. If I didn't tell people that there wasn't a muffler, they would have no idea. Really on to your point- the exhaust system channels the pressurized exhaust gasses out of a single LARGE opening at the end of your exhaust pipe. This single exit point localizes the sound and since it is larger, has a lower tone with less turbulance. Now... if you drill bunches of little holes, there will be lots of little places for the pressure to escape. It will whistle and cause "port noise" for your exhaust. Don't do it! Cut your muffler before you drill holes in it. At least you can put it back if you just cut it. Holes... eh, new muffler.

I had a friend in elementary school whose parents "raised" squirrels. Cute as babies, but yeah- once they got grown, my buddy would come to school all bandaged up on his hands where the squirrels got too happy!

No o-scope though, so you don't know if it is clipping or not. ....but still.... Woah.

So I finished it. I actually managed to make this look pretty good- all by myself. I had to get my dad to help me put the headliner back in- that thing is so big, it is a chore. I didn't go with any designs b/c nothing really struck me- but I did decide to delete the sun visors. I managed to wire my radar detector in behind the headliner as well. It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great fun either! I managed to clean some stuff that was filthy, sound deaden some more stuff, tighten down gobs of loose nuts and screws and so forth. I am about to run out of stuff to repair before I am able to build my wall. Yay!

I have also owned a Dayton plate amp (until a direct lightning strike killed it). It was nice but didn't have the grunt that the Bash does.

Not in the headliner... I am thinking about doing that on the Visors though. My name on my side and the wifey on the other visor. If I had kids and they sat in certain seats- I would do that though.

Oh, that was a daily ritual after bumping the subs! Play the subs, check for stray tacks! The entire headliner is gone. All I have left is the fiberglass undermatting, and I am going to have to patch and strengthen it. 20 year old van- so I guess it was time anyway. The foam under the headliner just turned to dust. It wasn't even much of a chore to clean the old foam off- because it wasn't foam anymore! It wasn't really that bad taking it down, just not something that I enjoyed. The driver's side plastic runs from front all the way to the back and the passenger's side is 2 piece. So... any Ideas on designs under the fabric?

Click: Edit - select all or part of song to slow, speed up, edit, etc.. Effect - you do all the business here... you can change the speed, add bass at specific frequencies, etc.... Save - as whatever file type Pretty easy- just don't over amplify something and clip the track. Clippage = blue smoke.

So... I decided to tackle this tonight and into tomorrow. I have had these wonderful tacks holding up my headliner for going on 5 or 6 years now- and before I put in the wall, I figure I had better put in the headliner. This really sucks in an Astro btw.... Super Dirty... Cleaning them up... Time for a break- Home made Fig Wine FTW!!! Wine is even better when you make it yourself! So- do I put any designs or anything under the new headliner??? I don't want to go stupid with it- just something that is different but won't be dated. So- that means no big chevy symbols, no names, no brand names (heaven knows that will change at some point...) What you guys think? A touch of flame around the center console? Some stars? Nothing? It will kinda' be like a tattoo- once it is there, it isn't coming back off! Any input is appreciated. I have some patch work to do, so prob. in the morning I will do the fabric.
