2000 Ford Ranger Dual Alt Kit
MECHMAN replied to loburbon's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
Yup, we have 200, 250 and 300 amp direct fit models. I could build a bracket kit for around $500, but I would need a truck for the weekend to mock one up on. -
150 amps at idle- The beauty of a large case conversion kit. It should power your system nicely providing you have a couple of good batteries to buffer out the current draw.

We have a direct bolt in 250 amp unit for $499 shipped. thanks Matt

2000 Ford Ranger Dual Alt Kit
MECHMAN replied to loburbon's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
If I could get a vehicle for a few days I could develop one for you. It usually runs around $500, 50% deposit required up front. We are located in knoxville if you think you could get us a truck to mock up the bracket. -
Got Anything For A 91 Geo Metro 3cyl?
MECHMAN replied to EricM9104's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
We can do a 250 amp unit for that vehicle, but it would likely stall the engine at idle. (the 3 cylinders don't have enough horsepower at idle to turn the alternator) You could bump up the idle speed somewhat and get away with it. Belt slip can also be an issue because of the tiny belt used on those vehicles. Our 200 amp unit would probably be the best choice. They are $449 shipped. -
The alternators in this thread are not from autozone. They were high priced ($400 -$500 each) units from reputable high output alternator manufacturers that are well known on this forum. Customers sent them to me because they were concerned that they were not putting out their rated output, and indeed most of them were not. I will not divulge who's units they are, because that just creates a gigantic mud-slinging fest. The priamry purpose of this thread is to compare output curves between the smaller case overwound units, and the output curves from MechMan large case conversions. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that you will generally have a better low RPM output curve from a physically larger late model alternator that doesn't have to have such an agressive stator to produce the same overall output. And for the reccord, using used OEM parts is not necessarily inferior to new aftermarket parts. In some cases, used OEM components can be of better quality than certain aftermarket components. In my opinion however, I don't think an alternator built out of a $15 core and a $40 stator should cost $400. The major reason why they have retail prices that high, is so that these other alternator companies have room to lower the price and sell them through distributors. MechMan alternators don't have as much markup in them because they are more expensive to build do to the parts that we use. At some point we might release a lower cost line of alternators built with used parts, but at this time all of our units are 100% new. We also have to take into consideration the labor and matierials used in the adapter brackets and custom housings, which further increases the build cost. Even with all of those expenses figured into the equation, our units are STILL generally less expensive than other units built with reclaimed parts, just because we don't have to build in a bunch of extra profit margin for middle-men.

If you got me some detailed pictures and diminsions of the unit we could probably machine you something custom. -
Where Oh Where Is Mechman
MECHMAN replied to cnate777's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
I sent you a PM. We are closed Sat-Sun normally, and of MechMan is closed on Monday for Memorial day. You should have your batteries by Friday if you order now. I can't make any promises be cause I don't have control over UPS, but they usually deliver from us to your zip code in 2-3 buisiness days. -

Need More Idle Output On A Budget?
MECHMAN replied to MECHMAN's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
The pulley will work on any Ford/GM alternator, high output or stock. They are all interchangable. -
We just set up a profile on Myspace, so all you MySpace junkies can add us and keep up to date with MechMan articles, blogs, new products, promotions, etc... http://www.myspace.com/mechmanalternators It is still just a rough draft, but keep an eye on it as we will be adding tons more each day!! Thanks Matt

Need More Idle Output On A Budget?
MECHMAN replied to MECHMAN's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
Again, an overdrive pulley does not increase the total output of the alternator, it only increases the output at idle. You will have about 20% more current at idle than you do currently. -

The overdrive pulley will boost the amperage output at idle by 20%. MLA modules do not increase output, they only raise the setpoint of the regulator. -

The pulley will boost idle output by aprox. 20% on that vehicle. For the money, it's a great upgrade. -
Need More Idle Output On A Budget?
MECHMAN replied to MECHMAN's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
The deep groove V-belt pulley will increase output under loads by reducing belt slip, and allowing the alt to make the full 250 amps. The deep groove pulley is slightly larger than the overdrive pulley we send out on the Nissan units, so your idle output may be reduced slightly. -
Need More Idle Output On A Budget?
MECHMAN replied to MECHMAN's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
No. The stock pulley ratio is so weak on your vehicle, you would have to run the engine at an extremely high RPM (well over 6,400 rpm) in order to take the alternator outside it's safe limit. This is not the case on ALL vehicles, but your car has a pretty small crank pulley. -
No Problem- We have a killer 300 amp comp unit that actually has pretty decent output at lower speeds. Under normal driving, it will EASILY keep those batteries uo. It is on sale for $449 shipped. We also have the 250 amp Rhino series unit that is made more for parking-lot playing, VERY strong at idle, about 165 amps. It is on sale for $399. Both units have competition rectifiers, oversized studs and diodes, overdrive pulleys, and HD regulators. If you really want to optimize the charge state of your batteries and the efficiency of your amps, we offer in-cab adjustable voltage controll for only $99 additional. Just give me a call if you have any questions! Thanks Matt 1-888-MECHMAN

Woot! Thanks Mechman!
MECHMAN replied to Derrick824's topic in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
How many watts are you runing off of those? I'd love to see some min. voltage number comparisons at full tilt between the yellow tops and the PM. Before and after comparisons with pics after the MechMan alternator would be cool too....
