  1. also, keep in mind that dc's like a relatively large port, 15-16sqin/cube
  2. the kicker not picking up on the lows (and the sq thing) are primarily due to them tuning their prefab boxes to like 38-40hz. while it does make them very loud, people used to sealed or low-tuned boxes will notice the low end roll off, while people who have neve rhad anything, or arent as experienced, dont know that there is even anything under what the kickers can play and are just blown away by how loud they are. as far as quality of build, they are very good, although not too forgiving of being overpowered. the rare exceptions to that rule are what have become common on these forums. almost all speakers on the market are intolerant of excessive power, and kicker is no exception. companies like dd/fi/dc that can handle way more than rated are the exception to the rule, although it might seem like all speakers should work like them.
  3. sooooo, it costs twice as much as a netbook that does a whole lot more, and doesnt even do as much as comprable tablets from other companies, and its ugly as hell i sooooo called that apple would rip off archos again
  4. those speakers specifically say that they are designed to run off a radio, and not an amp if you amp them they will blow pretty quick just dont, dont spend that money on two crappy pieces of equipment, spend 100 on a good set of speakers, or a good radio, not on shit speakers and a horrible amp
  5. no they'll blow with anything more than radio power spend some money, good clean highs doesnt come for 120 dollars. hell, a good tweeter costs more than that
  6. funky pups just wire them to 0 ohms and pound away
  7. a 2 channel will work fine...i do it all the time on a box thats 4 ohms...run a 2 channel bridged to get all the power out of it. rockford 500-1 and 500-2 are about the same price, but if i'm stuck with a 4ohm load, the 500-2 gives all the power, at the same cost, at a higher impedance. downside is that most 2 channels are a/b class while mono's are d-class, which is more efficient and really matters when you get to bigger amps. that said, you wouldnt believe how many people tell me to bridge my monoblock to get more power, i guess back in the day bridging an amp was the cool thing to do before true mono's were available and that idea just stuck around...like calling recievers "decks", which uised to refer to the fact that it contained a tape deck and not just a radio, but the terminology stuck around long after tape decks did. do 2 tens or 1 12. get components up front and coax rears(im a big fan of pioneer d-series and boston sr series). doing 2 10's in an optimal box will be louder and sound better than 2 12's being choked. buy the reciever and amps from an authorized dealer because if something was to happen the warrantee will save your ass (and companies like pioneer and kenwood have dealer-only lines with a better warrantee)
  8. for the hot cold thing, i did a heat gun, then canned air turned upside down so the freezy stuff sprays on the metal, it contracts the outside causing it to pull forward. it kinda only works on thin gauge metal with subtle curves, the spot you described it prob wont help. if you can get behind it, i've banged them out with a body spoon and hammer, but its something that usually takes some practice to get right
  9. if i can get 2 runs of 0, 6 rca's, and 12 speakers worth or speaker line to tuck under a toyota carpet, im sure you can get a run of 0 under your carpet like it was said before, going under the car is if you're doing an obscene amount of runs, or if going through the car isnt possible. I'd go under as a last resort, and in the dozens of installs i've done, i've never had to resort to that.
  10. i run mine inside, if for no other reason than i feel like the bottom of my car takes more abuse than the carpet along the framerail. twigs, ice, curbs, potholes, rocks....while on the inside the biggest danger is...ummm...someone stabbing my carpet where a wire is?
  11. http://www.bcae1.com/ go read, specifically the "ohms law" part on the right hand navi bar. and yes, a single dual 4 can be wired to 2ohm or 8ohm, theyre not lieing to you. there is no way to make it lower.
  12. real leather or suede can be up to 80 bux a yard depending on color/quality/style fake stuff you can get for ~12-17 a yard the fake stuff may not feel as nice, but a guarantee noone who has seen my car has even asked if its real suede or fake stuff. my box ate up like 4 yds of fabric, so this was the difference between a <100 dollar job and a >200 dollar job. redoing seats is a similar amount of fabric, so be prepared to drop some real money if you want it done right.
  13. hdmi cable lie...i laughed and then he said it to another customer, and as he was walking to the checkout i said "hey, the grey version of that cable is 98 cents on amazon, but monster is black so its def worth the extra 99 dollars" and my store stocks hdmi cables, and the only question i ever get asked is "whats the difference between the level 1 and level 3 cable?" and my answer is "the level 3 costs more"
  14. i have 8k's and have been pulled over like a dozen times and never had a ticket for them. it might just be that they were distracted by the tints or something but half of them mention the lights as a reason for pulling me over, and then ask me if theyre legal. i just say "its passed inspection a few times with them, i assume they are". never had much more of a problem about it than that. 10/12/20k though, theyre going to know its not right and call the station to get the right law youre breaking. and if you violated the law in the state youre technically guilty, ignorance is not a defense. neither is the fact that its legal somewhere else. throw the stocks back in, get it thrown out (sometimes you can go to the station and get an officer to sign off and not even have to sit through court.)
  15. oh damn electroluminescent panels http://www.luminousfilm.com/el_lamp.htm i mean, damn, havent seen that besides on like one box. even if it was just an insert or something it would be sick
  16. formica ive seen boxes done in like shiny black, aluminum look, marble, etc. theres alot available and its pretty easy to work with. if its a normal square box it might be for you. any kind of curves and youre back to some sort of fabric or paint
  17. archos x10 i have a 604wifi and it kicks ass sq through headphones is better than ipods too
  18. i saw the first post and was going to post "be real careful, the cone cracks mad easy" and as i was scrolling down to the fast reply i realized you already found out the hard way. those subs are real good as long as you dont give them anything over rms, or let anything touch the cone. I've seen a few broken while sitting on display cuz people have a tendency to knock/push on every subwoofer they see, and that one is obviously not meant to be touched. on the bright side, their subwoofers make their speakers look good, lol. and their radios just do everything pioneer does.... a year behind.
  19. tell the old lady its just business. no touching. i mean, you can have some sexy girl in a bikini cook pancakes and get more views than that retard Fred with the high voice. If you need to borrow a sexy girl that can cook pancakes apparently mine is pretty good looking, and can cook a mean pancake. worse case scenario, knock off girls gone wild with some like "girls gone sexy domestic services" and make some money. gotta be a market for barely clothed women doing normal things, lol.
  20. well it seems like you got the cameraman thing down pat, only thing that stuck out at me was that the white on blue color scheme is on like half the videos on youtube. idk what program you have for editing, but something out of the usual would be cool, even if it was like a different font over a pic or something. hate to make the comparison, but like a steve meade video, has video playing while text slides in over it, and has like white font with a blue outline. just something you dont see in alot of vids. maybe have like your own signature style or scheme or something
  21. hey, your part was perfect, vid was well done and whatnot im not putting you down at all i just think that the fine gentlemen in this piece of cinema are not destined to be the next richard pryor is all, so calm down about the rape
  22. personally, my line driver (rockford rf-bld) made the biggest difference (a bigger difference than amps, components, or this damn top of the line pioneer deck) it can do balanced or unbalanced outputs, aka, it can eliminate ground noise depending on the setting it can do 11-22volts, aka, it lowers your noise floor to china i installed it and retuned everything, and my horrible alt whine was gone, my hiss was gone, and everything sounded clearer and crisper than ever before. if you know what the defeciency in your system is, theres a way to fix it. if you just heard about a line driver and want your system to sound "better" it may not be for you. all it can do is increase dynamic range, lower noise floor, or eliminate interference if it has an unbalanced mode.
  23. my bad im grouchy i just saw the "lol this is funny" and watched 6 minutes waiting for the funny, and then it ended. it was just pics of two systems and some guys talking. but then again i find south park to be funny so what the hell do i know about humor?
  24. no anger just confused i dont get any of these videos. i see it now. guy with the white truck will play somethin, video will show whatever wiggles, some trash talk will go on, red truck will play something and there will be a video of something wiggling on the truck, some more trash talk will go on, and then whoever is there will decide the red truck is louder(because its less ghetto). theres like hundreds of them on youtube and idk where they all come from. im halfway ashamed theres even videos of my car in existance because i cant find a damn thing interesting about any of them
  25. the cheap scosche ones, the like generic blue/white ones that arent twisted, legit pulled the terminal off the wire plugging it into a h/u. not like anything nuts, just plugging it in and the wire fell out. now you've heard of someone with problems... tbh, even soundquest bulk rca's are a step up. the only thing i've seen thats worse than scosche BUDGET kits (they do make some really nice stuff, but the low end stuff is poop) is raptor. raptor is just plain horrible...
