  1. Apparently you neglect to fully read my posts. I stated several times that PPI made a flat cone. But they have NOT made a flat cone that can take the abuse that subs face today. Alma gates my have used flat cones in her old bronco, but she had multitudes of them which in the end didn't receive as much abuse as most subs do today, even in daily driver applications. Plus I'd like to see a back shot of the PPI sub to see if it's actually a flat cone, or just a flat dustcap that is layered over a normal cone. The only company to try a flat cone since the PPI subs was eD, and we should all remember that disaster. Even an aluminum backing on the cone couldn't help them from falling apart. Though eD isn't a company I would trust with such a design anyways. I know I'm really coming off as a douche in this thread, which wasn't my intention. Rusty is a good guy but I just really, REALLY don't care for this idea. That shouldn't deter people from buying his stuff because we all know it works. Not every sub is suited for every environment. It's just my personal experiences that form my opinions.
  2. It's still in the prototype phase since it's not something that is available nor really known to the general public. It appears that they are the first to have an test the sub. That seems like a prototype to me? And once again, please show me pics of the cone to former joint so everyone can assess the design. If they have developed a stronger method then that's great. Still doesn't take away from the fact that you have less cone area and a weaker overall structure.
  3. And just like I said, if the cones end up working, then they will have done something that no other company could do. Granted I still don't think the flat cones will be benficial in any way, so all the work is for nothing.
  4. What does being part of team kicker (now defunct) have anything to do with this thread? Just so you know, I'm the one who built and tested that install with the lvl4's versus the ground pounders. Very basic and should have worked well for the lvl4's. 4 cubes net, four 4" aeroports. The crunches were over 1 dB louder and still live to this day. The lvl4's got beat to hell, suspension sagged, and the dustcaps broke. I'm looking for REAL evidence to back up what all these people are claiming. Not a bunch of dick riders saying that everything will be ok because they listen to whatever lines a company will feed them. I've probably done more SPL testing than 95% of this forum, so I feel that I'm allowed to state my opinions. You don't become a national champion in two completely different competition organizations by listening to what others have to say. You go out there and find out for yourself. But I will say this. If the A team tests these cones and discovers that they are great, then perhaps I will reconsider my opinion. But even with that consideration, I take a look at who they are. A great team of guys who live and die by DC. Do you really think they would ever say anything bad about DC, even if the product didn't live up to their expectations? I doubt it. The problem I'm running in to nowadays when trying to get opinions on different companies is a lot of people are extremely biased. These guys are DC. Those guys are T3. Guys overe there are Fi. Who am I supposed to get an unbiased opinion from? All the forums nowadays are full of ass kissers and people looking for a handout/discount, IMO.
  5. You know what I'm sick of? Companies posting pictures of products that aren't out of the prototype phase to generate all kinds of hype. This should have stayed under wraps until everything was said and done, because in the end if it ends up not working then who is the one with their thumbs up their butts? Certainly not me. This is almost as bad as the fake T3 TSNS that jd posted everywhere. But I guess DC got what they wanted. A bunch of people begging for stuff that hasn't even proven itself yet. Excuse me for not buying into the hype and bullsh*t.
  6. Both of these lines are completely beyond the point. Of course a carbon fiber cone of the same style will be stronger than a paper cone. I'm comparing a flat carbon fiber cone to a concave paper cone, which are not even close to being the same. Chicken eggs or carbon fiber eggs? Please. Look at all the loudest vehicles in the world and take a look at what type of cone they use (minus the fact that most of them run DD).
  7. How about a pair of lvl4's getting beat out by a pair of crunch ground pounder 12's? With more power on the lvl4's. Go ahead and say what you want, but flat cones haven't been used before for a reason. Joint failures are imminent. Think of it like this. A coil is pushing against a normal concave cone during excursion. The cone holds up because the outward pressure is held in by the cone structure. A coil pushing against a flat surface does not have the same resistance. There is also significantly less area for the former to join to the cone. On a normal cone the former can be glued from both sides, making the bond super strong. With a flat cone, it can only be adhered to the back side, greatly reducing strength. Granted that the carbon fiber construction WILL help with this issue, but I see absolutely zero benefits of using a flat carbon fiber cone versus a concave one (i.e. dd composite cones). You still lose overall cone area and a great amount of strength. People who think concave cones cause cancellation are just using that as an excuse to ride DC's nuts. I stand by what I said. If I'm proven wrong, then so be it. There's a reason that flat cones haven't been used since the eD/PPI era, especially in high SPL applications. They just don't work. FYI, I still want to see pictures of the cone-to-former bond. I like how thats the one picture that wasn't taken.
  8. You call it hating, I call it design flaws and misinformation.
  9. Nope, just stating the obvious (for some). Please prove me wrong?
  10. Don't you guys remember the old grade school science trick where you stack books on eggs? Concave is world's stronger than a flat cone. The material isn't what makes the cone strong, it's the shape. Apparently nobody remembers the eD epic failure. (not to mention a 4" coil with a 12 spoke basket) I'd like to see some former-to-cone joint pictures, because I'm sure it isn't pretty. My nut-hugging meter is through the roof in this thread. Rusty could take a dump and stamp a DC logo on it and you guys would be lining up all wanting a wiff.
  11. Good to hear. Everything looked pretty tight, just something that I noticed and wasn't sure about. Didn't know about the coating on the positives. Like I said, I know you don't take shortcuts so I'm sure there was some reasoning behind it.
  12. Isn't the cover above them made of metal? My concern would be hitting a big bump or something and having the batteries "jump" up and contact that metal plate above them. It's a slim chance because of the weight and the bussbars holding them all together, but meade plays it safe on everything else so I just wondered why he made an exception this time.
  13. Awesome rebuild steve. One question, I went through the uninterrupted pics thread and didn't notice this: Are the batteries that are underneath strapped down to keep them from moving up and down? Didn't really see anything. Can't wait to see some new vids of EVERYTHING playing.
  14. I'll be at the one in benton harbor, MI so I can get my 35 points in S2 and DB2.
  15. Ah ok, I've been to that shop a few times for previous shows. We'll see about that one.
  16. Gotta work this weekend, so those shows are out of the question. When/where is this algonquin show?
  17. Just thought I'd add that my sub is still in working condition. When I was demoing after my usaci runs somebody opened the passenger door which causes the enclosure to unload, which is why the sub sounded like it was dying. Closed the door and it kept going like a champ. Pulled it out of the box yesterday and both coils are still good and everything is still in one piece. It just didn't want to die!
  18. I know there's a MECA show in benton harbor on june 7th that I'm going to try and attend. Otherwise you just have to check the show schedules of the org's. www.dbdragracing.com www.mecacaraudio.com www.soundoff.org
  19. There will be quite a few of us from ca.com.
  20. If you aren't concerned about fusing or wanting to seriously compete in MECA, they'll probably just put you in S5. Just go and have fun.
  21. I'm going just for the fun of it. Only 20 minutes away.
  22. From the sound of that, it seems as though he's going to spike the meter for his customer's cars. Gotta love the a/c.
  23. Sounds kinda lame, but if i'm off of work I might go up there anyways. It's only 20 minutes from my house. Perhaps I can bring my termlab along and have them use that instead? Haha.
  24. Honestly, I would be up for either. But I'm leaning towards db drag because I need points for finals.
