  1. Tagging this post so I can find it tomorrow. I have a friend who i'm sure would like to see it.
  2. Some days when I have the energy I'll swap amps out 3 times trying different things, Each time I get in my car and drive down the road to test. My nieghbors shouldn't have to ask me to turn it down. By the time some one asks they've heard the crap bump till they are pissed anyway.
  3. If ya mean an 18 I'll start saving. I just blew my wad on wire. If you mean a dog as long as he doesn't bite when you kick at him.
  4. Very Nice! I'm a tad envious. Where's that damn dog when I need to kick something...
  5. Maybe you were on a 15 amp gfci plug from outside? try a different plug.
  6. Nice job on the box, My first box build wasn't so hot and is now the cat apartment and never seen a sub. The first night I put it in the kitchen the cats were fighting and growling in it. Sounded just like ghosts because of the acoustics. Scared the shit out of me for a few minutes till I got brave enough to go in thier with my x-bow and see what it was lol I like the sub also.
  7. My memory is about as long as my D@#$, But wasn't there a post about some meter that used the metal box as the mic because the metal was sensitive to pressure diffs. And you had to put a dmm on the metal box? I thought in the thread the rep said that is what nasa used because it had a huge upper limit and was super sensitive.
  8. I would guess it depends on a lot of factors. But this is what I found out using an audiocontrol meter at a local shop. numbers may be inflated a tad because it's not a T.L. But it is a nice A.C. Older kenwood amp 850 watts @2ohms($100 Craigslist) 2 entry level powerbass ps-12's 250 rms ea. Sensitivity 91 db's. Single 4 ohm coils ($45 ea. new) pre-fab slot ported box in the trunk 147.0 db's. Then I wasted money on new power bass xl-12's 350 rms, Sensitivity 92 dbs. Dual 4 ohm coils and an P.B. asa 1000.1d amp 1000 watts @ 1 ohm. Same box. 146.6 db's. The cheap subs call for 2.5 cube ft. ported and the xl's for 2 cube feet. both about the same herz, Maybe one Hz diff. Not positive on the sq. ft. of the box used because it is a prefab but I think 3.5ish total? not counting port. I'm sure I'm missing alot of reasons why But I think the lighter and easier to move sub is easier to get spl out of with low watts.
  9. All thats going to happen is someone's going to get an extra 20 cent's a month social security that has a ssn close to you. I've heard of people "accidently" changing a number on thier s.s. everytime they get a job to avoid stuff for years and years.
  10. If it was me, I'd take it to my shop after I put a sealed box in or cover the ports I did have. They have a c.d. there that each song is an seperate herz and they bump it up till it peaks on the meter.. On my 98 Ford Contour it happens to be 51 Hz. Tune from there. I think they charge 5 bucks for doing that and another 5 for a tone cd at your hertz.
  11. 'preciate the answers guys thnx, And not a prob about asking a question on the thread also Tacoma. Just means I get to learn more.
  12. I've been checking out the site for little while. Best audio forum I've found yet. good job on the people running it. And alot of people seem to not mind answering questions with out slamming you. I like that. I found the site googling Steve Meade after I seen the tahoe on youtube. I'm from Oregon and getting into the sport a bit late. Didn't get my first sub till I was 47 years old this spring. I cranked it and was like baby where you been all my life been hitting every competition I hear about ever since. Now i'm obsessed with spl haha. I'm up to 4 amps and 5 subs and a few boxes junking the place up already. Anyways thnx for the good furum and info. I'm out.
  13. Are remote gain knobs interchangable? I would like to use the knob from my concept 2400 on my pwerbass 1000.1d.
  14. I'd tell them I like to compete with it. I don't listen to it while driving. (spl set up. Sounds like crap) They still don't understand so I tell them it's like a race car. you don't drive it to the store. you leave it in the garage till race day. I do get asked that lot though because I am older (47) though. The other old guys just walk away shaking their heads.
  15. Plz don't go through a ton of work from anything I said 99% of the people here on the forum know more than me. so maybe one of those guys could confirm that that might help. I was just saying what worked for me to give you an idea. If your local stereo shop is anything like mine when I have a problem I stop by and the tech guy comes out hooks testers up to my stuff and fixes it out in the parking lot if its simple and tells me what is wrong if it isn't. I ask him what I owe and he'll say no charge.
  16. I had one. It I had to add hot sauce. But I do eat at taco bell alot. I have two obsessions spl and gambling. Taco bell is for my gambling side. Sometimes I win and don't get the runs, Sometimes I lose and do get em .
  17. I have a kenwood amp and it was doing the same thing. I didn't know what to do so I unhooked every wire from the back of the deck to the amp and to the subs and then hooked them all back up again including the power wires and grounds to the amp. It's worked fine ever since.
  18. I say why not/ The price is right. And you don't really want to learn on top of the line stuff anyway if you like to turn knobs and dials like I do. My first set of subs didn't last long at all lol once someone told me just enough about bridging and ohming down to hurt myself. Edit- as far a capacitors I was told 1 farad per 1000 watts. I just had an audio battery installed instead in my trunk. They are small. I think it cost me $200 and was rated at 100 farads I think.
