You could burp it that low but your better score will be higher. In my Ford Contour it was loudest at 57. My crx likes 54. What you want to burp at depends on your cars frequency and the box. Best thing to do if you don't know is play a sweep for comps. Then if you want to get serious take a single 10 in a sealed box and play tones and see what your cars freq is at and have some one who knows boxes well design a box according to that. For competing that is.

Dont sweat it. Soldiers are about the only thing I put before my audio Just ask my wife.

Very nice box and darn good numbers for that tuning and amp! With what you listed I bet it sounds great as well.

It's for unsactioned local competitions for now and they are pretty lax about that kind of stuff. It metered highest on an audiocontrol meter. I tried it firing forward- 149 db, Then firing up- 150 db, Then port on passenger side up- 152 db. I agree this box was built for a different car, Right now my loudest frequency is 54 with that high tuned box. I am having a box made soon. I am going to try putting a sealed 10 in it and find the cars freq and tune 5 hertz lower for a start. And am going with removable aero's so I can tune lower for daily.

Thats what I thought. It really is dependent on many things I suppose. I just have a couple competitions coming up and I always like to improve with each one. So what is the closest to the roof that is usually acceptable for suvs or hatchbacks with subs firing up is what I was wondering . I'm using my box I had in my Ford right now. I don't think it is a very good hatch back box. it's tuned to 60ish and I have it laying on it's back with the subs and slot port up. The slot port is on the passengers side. So far that has metered the best. It is right behind the seats and I think it should be louder if I push it back. The problem is if I do the subs and port will be only a couple inches away from the glass. It will be a lot of work changing the amps and batterys location and if it is a bad idea to begin with I'll just keep it like it is till I get a new box in a few months.

In a hatchback (crx) with upfiring 12 inch subs is there a best distance for sub from the hatch glass for loading the subs for spl? I'm sure moving the box back and forth while metering is the best way but in this case it is a little difficult to do because of batterys and amp rack placement and a couple other things. But I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb ie. 3 inches or 1 foot usually?

Those were my first subs ever, I bought a car that had those in it. I liked them. and I thought they pounded. At the time I just knew I was hitting close to 150 db's with them Come to find out my guess was off by 15 give or take lol. They sounded good though considering the box they were in and the distortion we were feeding them out of that 4 channel amp. But I do blame them for getting me hooked on bass and costing me my girls college money.

Bummer about the truck. That does look like a fun competition to go to though. -
Thanx for your concern, It's all good though. Doctor sewed my belly button back together with out a hitch, Took 30 minutes is all. Back to work next week. I forget what the actual voltage drop was but I had some one hold a dmm on my Kineiks while I played full volume burps and it didn't drop much at all. so far so good.
-
I would go with 2 12's. Done right they can be louder than you want to listen to for very long. I know mine are. The faster or slower sub thing I think is a myth. I think box and sub parameters have more to do with sounding good with different music than anything.

I'm not a box expert but I see nothing wrong with that box. Looks a lot like the one I am running besides the port is a tad smaller. I'd check the wiring like every one is saying. Maybe take a 9 volt battery and touch positive speaker wires to positive on the battery. Same with negatives. Make sure both subs pop out and not one out one in. Check the sub wires with a dmm see if they are at the same ohms. Check the coils with the dmm also. Push on the subs and see if one feels different or sounds scratchy. Check the wires them selves and make sure they aren't pinched or little strands arcing. Just some ideas you might want to try. I know how annoying these types of thins can be and sometimes it's the little things that cause it.

It's true that most answers can be found using the search button. But by scanning the board and studying questions and answers is how a lot of people learn a lot of things, Often to questions they didn't even know to ask yet. I'm slowly graduating from the bass portion of things into the comps and sq side. I have no clue where to even start but reading other peoples questions I'm sure I'll it will slowly sink in. -
