  1. Coca-Cola all the way 1 2 liter a day Monday - Friday 2 2 liters a day Saturday and Sunday. The Mon-Fri thing is unless I'm off work, then I move up to 2 2 liters for that day. And the only way to drink it is right from the damned bottle.
  2. I used to have one of those. Can't remember what happened to it, and don't really give a damn. Haven't seen it for about 20 years
  3. Sorry to see you got caught by your own trap, but it's probably a good thing. As others have mentioned, if a thief gets hurt by something like that while he is stealing your stuff, he can sure the living hell out of you. There can also be some other legal consequences you'd have to look at. In other words, get rid of the razor blades.
  4. Moving up to the big hitters arena I see. The Astro is great for getting loud, and pretty darn easy. The engine is pretty much easy to work on as long as you have some patience. Changing the plugs can be a pain (go through the wheel wells with a long socket extension). If thinking about doing a 350 swap, it's one of the easiest to do from what I've heard. I am going to do that to mine as soon as I find the right engine. Hopefully the head isn't warped, but if it is..... I may be able to help out. I've currently got 2 1989 Astros. Fixing to swap engines from one to the other, so I'll have some parts. I may also have a front passenger fender, but I have to make sure there isn't a dent on my DD. Looks like you're gonna need a headlight door for the passenger side. Ebay has some for a pretty good price. Let's see....... Be prepared for some serious sound deadening. Check the supports that run across the roof. Hopefully somebody hasn't climbed on the roof and buckled it. Check the weather seals around the back doors. If they have the slightest crack in them, they'll leak like a mofo. Mine leaks at the top where both doors meet when closed. That astrosafari link is great, but some of the info that has been posted over the years have disappeared due to crashes and such. There is also astrosafarivans.net Which started out as a backup for astrosafari.com. I like that box. Hope I helped a little bit.
  5. How can anybody love vista? I mean, bill gates even even thinks vista sucks. And I have heard you can down(up)grade to XP. Not sure exactly how though.
  6. If I remember right, the specs they do have on their website are for 12volt systems. The 10,000 does more on 16volt (of course). We are trying to find out if I still have a soundstream sponsorship (missed a few shows last season). If so, I will be running the xxx-12000d on 12 splx-154 subs when it comes out. Up till then I should be using the 4000d on 4 splx-154 subs. God I hope I can get the system built for SBN
  7. Yea, I know they are crap. Those are the streetglow strobes on a streetglow controller to make them wig-wag and what not. I liked them at first, but after about a week of having them, I pretty much felt embarrassed having them. But what can you say, when you're broke, it shows. Thanks god I haven't doen that to the 'stro yet. If I do, hope somebody relieves me of my misery quick
  8. Whelen, as far as I'm concerned, is the best. There are others out there like federal signal (can't remember the exact name, but I think that's it). If you want to go a little cheaper, you can get the Plasmaglow 100w strobe kit. It can only do 2 pairs though, but still not bad. Oznium.com has it for 174.99 plus shipping. http://www.oznium.com/plasmaglow-strobe DO not get the cheap stuff from an auto parts store. Not that bright (20watts max). They wash out during the day and still don't look to bright at night. TO give you an idea, here is a pretty crappy vid. http://media.putfile.com/Meteors-and-StreetGlow-Strobes
  9. Remote level control. Goes between the headunit and amps, on the subwoofer RCA output of the headunit. This will allow you to control all the amplifiers that are on the subwoofer output. I use one with my sub amps and don't have any problem. Something like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/SCOSCHE-EFX-CAR-AMP-RE...1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. I liked the movie. Much better than others I have seen lately. Yea, it did get me a little pissed off. I think I may watch it again, as soon as I fix my VLC install.
  11. Leopard looks good. Any OS can get viruses, just doze has more due to the high visibility of the OS and Microsoft. I may have to get leopard and see if I can vmware (I run linux) it.
  12. Yes, they are the same as the Power Acoustik, well, they used to be. I just check out both subs, and the specs have changed a little bit. I used to be able to get these subs for $75 each, until the shop closed down. People did like them, but I didn't think they were all that.
  13. I've been smoking since I was 14, I'm fixing to turn 39. I have tried to quit far too many times, and have failed miserably at each attempt. Guess I just don't have the will power to do it or something. I was able to quit drinking and using drugs (marijuana, coke, speed, etc...) without any problems, but I just can't shake the cig habit. My last attempt lasted for 3 days. That attempt just happened to start on the 1st of this year. After 3 days, I couldn't stand the feeling of being lightheaded (more than usual), and the cravings didn't seem to be getting better. Right now I'm back to doing a half a pack a day. I've really got to quit. I have been noticing the effects it is having on me and people around me. Hell, I don't like the taste, the smell, or anything about it, and don't understand why I'm still doing it. Quiting is very hard for some people to do. People that don't smoke think it's simple, but it definitely isn't. Most people need something to replace the cigarettes with. Not just for the nicotine, but also the act of smoking a cigarette. I may try the beef jerky tip mentioned above. Sounds like it may help. I've tried the gum, made me want to smoke more. I've tried hypnotism, didn't work. I've tried candy (lemonheads are awesome) but that didn't work either. Maybe the beef jerky will.
  14. Good deal on the gifts man. And I know about the age difference thing. My girlfriend is 14yrs younger than me.
  15. My dad passed around this time. My girlfriend left and probably won't be coming here today. I'm broke as hell, so couldn't afford to get any good presents for anybody. Van is acting up. Haven't talked to my mom and step dad in a few weeks, and really don't feel like it. I'm on call for work. I was supposed to have this whole week off, but that got ruined. It's raining like a mofo outside. Christmas is so overrated and blown out of proportion. Just another day
  16. Not just with the fabric work, you also have some fiberglass work. The job would take a while to do, but yes, it can be done, if you have the time, patience, and finances to be able to learn and do. As mentioned by FCsteve, get a practice dash or panel and practice your hearts content out. Only way to find out if the job is going to be hard to do is to jump right in and start learning to do it.
  17. One of my SPLXs did that. What a b***h it was to recone it, but I got it. The magnet on my sub was held together with screws and CA glue, as well as the magnetism. Was a pain separating the magnet from the basket and trying to get it recentered. Honestly, I would send it somewhere, like Fi (if he'll deal with it), since he has the stuff to do it properly.
  18. I had the opportunity to do something like this last year. They (not the same company) wanted to send me to Iraq. I told them, "HELL NO!", since I didn't want to wake up dead. Now I wish I wouldn't have passed up the opportunity. I may consider it now, even though I would rather stay in the good ole US of A.
  19. Not TWC, but Comcra...errr...Comcast. Had the same problems. Had techs to the house 5 times in less than a month to fix it. The house ended up getting totally reinstalled over the time of all the tech visits (1st trip = new box, 2nd new cable inside house, 3rd new cable outside house, 4th new cable from pole to house, 5th new box.). Every time they came out they seemed to find something else. Never got the problem fixed. Moved to a new house, got the account transfered to here, and haven't had one bit of problem since. Problem is more than likely on their end and they don't won't admit to it.
  20. Can't really help with port tuning as I'm still learning. The formula above is for external cf^3, if I'm reading it right (tired form work). To get internal ft^3 take the thickness of the wood off each side. example: that 40"wide X 30" tall x 20" deep enclosure, using .75" MDF would be... 38.5"w x 28.5"t x 19.5"d. for an internal ft^3 of 12.3821614583 or 12.39 ft^3 Of course I could be wrong. Far too damned tired to use my mind right now.
  21. I second what Bossmaan said. I'm going through somewhat the same thing.. Well, not really the same. My girl decided she wanted to go wash clothes Friday afternoon, said she'd be back in a little while. I have not seen or heard from her since. Her sis talked to her yesterday, told her that she was here. I talked to her sis today and told her she was not here. Also told her that I am packing her shit up, I'm tired of it. We shall see how this turns out.
  22. If you go to a hobby shop, ask for tire glue. Some shops won't know it as CA glue. The glue really is nothing but super glue with a rubber base added, from what I was told at the shop I went to.
  23. Steve, you should consider sending that vid to Hershey's for their chocolate milk commercial. Never know, you may become rich (or richer) from it. Good vid. Was told that was the best video he's seen of this type. Course, I haven't showed the eye popper yet.
  24. This is info that I've gathered, but may be off a little. It's best to have the same type/size of batteries. This way one doesn't drain off the other and cause problems. You can run the ground wire of the second battery to the frame of the vehicle. You don't really need to have fuses, but it is recommended for safety reasons. If you do install fuses, one under the hood withing 18" of battery on the positive wire, one in back withing 18" of battery on positive wire. Running the batteries in parallel will result in 12volt plus the amperage of the 2 batteries. Example: 2 12volt batteries at 800amps each will give a 12volt 1600amp system. Running the batteries in serial will result in 24volt, but keep the amperage the same. Example: 2 12volt batteries at 800amps each would give 24volt 800amps. It's also a good thing to do the Big 3 upgrade, whether you have a stock alternator or a H.O. alternator. Now that's that's over, and I hope it's correct (it is from what I can tell and understand). I currently am running 2 batteries in my Astro with the stock alternator. Both batteries are 900amp each. I used 4/0 wire for positive and ground, with no fusing installed. The 4/0 is run under the van and zipped tied to the frame. To get into the van, I didn't use rubber grommets but instead used 2 house electrical box metal conduit ends (can't remember what they're called actually). Maybe a pic will explain it better. When I first did this, I was VERY scared of blowing the batteries up. It's been 3 months, or longer, and haven't had one bit of problem.
