  1. I was at a local surplus store, and picked up some Bass Warrior 4 AWG cable to use for my battery>starter upgrade. This stuff was like $3.49/ft. which seemed like a huge ripoff, but I bought it anyway. Its got braided wire running down the center, then the insulation, then another layer of braided wire, and another layer of insulation. Whats the reason for this? Can't find shit out about the company, probably out of business or something considering the product is at a surplus store. EDIT i just looked at the cable again, its actually bass warriAr found this link. which is almost not helpful at all except that it seems to be an asian brand, and the amps logo is the same as the writing on the wire. http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en...GL_enCA280CA280
  2. where do you find this stuff? I cant seem to find the right company i dont think.

  4. I'm going to use the 101XLN interlinks, since they were available locally at Princess Auto for $3.71/5m .... so I picked up 3 sets. What the hell, they should be good for my system and def better than some no name knock off brand. The biggest problem is the 1/0 I need. How is Pyramid wire? another local place has Pyramid 4ga wire cheap..... but I know Pyramid is also a pretty shitty brand..... I wouldn't shit in there speakers, the loaf would be worth more.
  5. OG Thrice? you know its good when they try to sound like someone else.... EG Obie Trice...
  6. So my install, while coming along at a glacial pace, is at the point where I need to start looking at some wiring and connectors etc.... a lot of small shit where the costs really start to add up. The more I look the more I see so many different types of wires, and what makes them so much better than the rest, justifying some outrageous price. There is nothing locally (London, Ontario... Custom shops are extinct here, its box stores and pre-fab boxes all over the place) which makes it all that much harder. Conversion rates, shipping, and UPS with their bullshit fees when something crosses the border. What I need is some good quality wiring that doesn't carry a competition price tag, My system consists of some budget amps right now, and a couple of budget subs (Insignia NS-P2000) I'm looking a little bit long term in that I want some good wiring so I only need to drop in upgraded amps later on down the road, this way I won't need to go back re-wire stuff over and over again, at the same time I don't want to spend thousands of dollars for top-quality sound. This is the wiring I need, But I don't know where to look for the best price (Canadian sources would be bomb) and more importantly I don't really know which brands are good quality other than the expensive stuff like Streetwires, Tsunami, and some of the monster stuff. For RCA Cables I think I might go with Monster 101XLN Interconnects. Princess auto has them on dirt cheap, and I know Monster is pretty good, but how about those specific brand of interconnects? I need to upgrade my big 3, which will require a bit of a different approach than normal, since I need to rewire my starter/alt/battery connection. right now it goes Alt>Starter>Battery. I haven't figured out how I'm going to rewire this, but I'm thinking of just going >alt>battery>starter with 1/0 all the way if I can. This leads me to wonder which 1/0 wire is a good wire for a decent price, and furthermore, which terminals should one use. I've got to wire up two amps, I'm considering running 1/0 to my trunk and splitting it into 2 4ga to power each amp (500W bridged each, will be running at 250W) Where am I going to need fuses/holders? those anl fuse holders are expensive, where is a cheap place to buy them? waterproof? Also, I do want stuff that looks good, and no I don't just want blingified shit, I just think things should be "easy on the eyes" when you look at them.
  7. I dont know about cars, but it makes your house feel like there is an earthquake when its done right.
  8. well what about brands. How would the following brands compare to each other? Monster Tsunami Stinger Streewires (ZN9 Series) Pyle Pyramid Acoustic Research
  9. use glad press & seal to cover the surrounds.... i dont know how it reacts to paint, but the shit is amazing.
  10. when there are a lot of visitors, there are way more hits to the DB than there are visitors. on this page alone there could be 30 or so queries to the database, pulling info, avatars etc. So each person viewing this page is hitting the database 30 times, multiply that by 10 users and that's 300 database queries/connections. every page you see on a message board has multiple queries to the database to build the pages. thats why large message boards are so server intensive.
  11. maybe when I upgrade, but for right now, its just about getting a system in the car. The wiring will all be over-done so I'll just have to drop the new, more powerful, amps in, but from what I've seen these are one of the "higher end" budget amps. Construction seems pretty solid, and THD <0.01%, fuse size seems to be inline with its ratings..... I won't really know for sure until I can use them. I still need to find some good wire to make my interconnects with though.
  12. you must be looking at the wrong amps, the ones I have do have outputs. they have a left/right input, and a left/right output. Its 500W bridgeable @4Ohms. my speakers are 200W RMS @8 OHMs though. so bridged It will only give me 250W RMS to the speaker, which should be plenty. According to a calculator that Ive found, my amp puts out 500W @ 4Ohms bridged. My speakers are 8Ohms, so it should be giving 250W @ 8Ohms bridged. Using those numbers, it should be 44V output at maximum?
  13. The amps are Insignias, the ones that come in the NS-P2000 party pack..... I'm buying a second one. Yes they have RCA outs, but I think running Y cables might save some cabling unless there is any advantage to daisy chaining. the MAXX link simply is not a justifiable cost for me, it's much to expensive for the system I will be starting out with, and I just don't have that kind of money to spend right now on something that isn't necessarily needed. How do I set the gains using a DMM? are there any threads or tutorials/articles about it? this seems like the most accurate way to set the gains. My HU does have two sub outs, it has a left channel and a right channel for its subwoofer outputs. I will have 2 subs, and 2 amps, one on the left side of the trunk, and one on the right side of the trunk. Are you saying split each sub out from my HU and connect both L/R to each amp? or do I just use the left sub out on my HU for the sub and speaker on the left side of my trunk, same for the right side? This is what really has me confused as to which would be better.
  14. the maxxlink seems a little pricey and overkill just to split a wire..... I guess the big question is, should I just run the left sub output(HU) to the left side amp/speaker, and the right sub output(HU) to the right side amp/speaker, OR should i run both left and right sub outputs to both amps? each amp will be bridged.
  15. Title basically sums up the problem, my headunit has only one output for sub (Left and right actually) You can see the unit here. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11787_...DC-MP538U.html# Do I just use a Y adapter to run both amps, or do I run one amp off of each side? The amps im running are 2ch amps, bridgable, and will only be running one sub each.
  16. http://www.audiomania.com/shop/goods-6486.html They're only $86 per tip dude...... stop being such a cheapskate......
  17. Can you use coaxial cable to make them? Or is that a bad idea for car audio? It's quite stiff, but I really know nothing about it other than that, and it might have resistance which I doubt is good.
  18. well where is a good place to buy some quality wire/tips? preferably Canadian, or with cheap shipping
  19. this is the biggest reason I would do it myself. I've made RCAs before but not for cars, and I wasn't looking for an extremely high quality product. In this case I am. I guess it just comes down to the wire, since I know my skills, and certainly trust my own quality work I also want some nice looming for protection and such.
  20. How would making your own compare to something like streetwires zero noise 9's? They're a pricey wire, but I want some top-notch wiring providing a clean signal to my amps.
  21. I didnt read the whole thread, but did anyone else think Quarantine was a complete fucking pile of shit? i mean they actually showed the VERY LAST SCENE in the trailers....the very end scene, right before the credits...... I should have pulled my finger and toe nails out.
  22. try www.globalsemi.com you will probably have to contact them, but they might have the faceplate you need. I have to order my kenwood plates from them cause my head unit will only work with my specific faceplate. what a stupid criminal?!
  23. I'll look him up.... I'm just trying to figure out what to do with my trunk BEFORE I put my stuff in there. I knew that would get some reactions
  24. I'm looking to finish my trunk real nice, and I'd like to find some pics of peoples trunks that have done something other than leave their trunk the way it was when it rolled off the line. It doesn't have to be packed with audio components or anything at all, really I just want to see what people might have done with their trunks to make them a little nicer. What would I search for (google or here) to get some good results, or for that matter does anyone even bother doing anything with their trunks if they aren't putting amps and stuff in it?
