    a larger box will have more rise but its more efficient. just the opposite for a small box. when i did my testing i found that the larger box made up for the loss in power from rise. if i made the box smaller, my score went down. just pointing out that imp rise is not the only factor to worry about.

    false. to me a blown sub means a coil burnt up and there is nothing that low volume will do to break in the copper winding of a coil. the only part i would ever worry about is the spiders being too stiff and cracking. if you are really worrid about it, go ahead and keep the volume lower for a week. but for the most part, break in just mean they get better once they break in. not that they will be damaged if you dont do something special.

    chat used to work perfectly for my when the forum changed but then after a month or something it went back to this problem. and when i launch in a new window, i cant go into private chat, open emoticons, or really click on anything. does this on any computer i have used. hmm... seems to be a problem with the carbon redgrey theme. blood looks like its working for chat.

    3" ports always cause noise in the systems i've heard with them. go with a 4" if you can.

    run the ground all the way up to the front battery or to the engine. grounding to the engine is grounding it to your alternator.

    in the old days, it was always 2x resistance = 1/2 power. today you have companies underrating their amps at 1ohm. BUT they tell you an accurate number at 2ohm. thats the best explanation I have in my arsenal to answer your question. and ive talked to guys that have been doing this a lot longer than i have that said the same thing. you can make an amp to do full power at 2ohm and it'll actually do less power at 1ohm. i believe thats from heat loss but im not sure.

    hahahaha, your making a barrel into a speaker enclosure? thats pretty funny. i wonder how well the side of the barrel will hold its seal when its being vibrated. how do you put the bottom on once your done?

    i dont think you understand where some items are strong and where they are weak. a metal band wont do anything over the long spans across the box. it will only put pressure on the edges. try making a 3 layer strip of fiberglass as long as the longest panel in your box. see how much it bends. i had the same idea when i was starting to get into audio. ive been there, i know. keep it simple and just put in a brace. a simple dowel will do as much if not more than all that fiberglass. it doesnt have to be as complex as you think.

    heres is a little bit of dynamat. look how its clearly been pressed over the entire thing. his looks nothing like it.

    look at the foil in the first pic. there is hardly any evidence of pressure being applied to the SS. looks like he slapped it on and scratched the middle of the tile. and later you can see where he did put pressure it stuck because the black part clearly looks different in the middle.

    except this isnt a fiberglass box he is talking about. he's talking about adding fiberglass to a wood box for structural integrity. good job reading the question boss.

    fiberglass is fairly flexible over one large flat area. thats why you always see it in tube or round shapes or with ridges to create more strength. it'll be a lot cheaper to just put another layer of wood on there or brace with a dowel or something. you're just going to throw money away on fiberglass.

    you could wire one relay to make the fans run parallel then another replay to run two in series. so one switch position would be 12v and the other would be 6v to the fans. when i had fans i just ran them in series because they were loud and they were on every time the amps were on. or you might be able to put a resistor on one end of a switch and no resistor on the other end. find out how to do the math on the size of resistor you need to pull the voltage down to what you want. that would be the easiest way.

    ya, that little guy was definitely unloading. i wouldnt push it that hard in that box until he gets a buddy. no reason to rip a spider or crinkle a former before its all together.
