Do not buy a new one. When they glue it they just glue it around the edges and it will fall down within weeks. I ended up buy 2 before just recovering it with rollon truck bedliner. I also used some heat deadener to keep the plastic from bending. If you can find one in good shape in a junkyard, then get it. Make sure it's ABS plastic, or your screwed if it gets hot.

If your headlights start flickering with the bass, you might need to get a batt. Otherwise, as long as you don't play for too long with the engine off, you should be fine.

Unless your alt is under 100 amps, your stock electrical should be fine.

I believe aluminum is stronger than copper to a degree. I'm not sure about it's electrical transfer properties, but I heard that copper is better at transfering electricity.

Always connect positive before ground. Positivie is the most likely to arc. Ground can arc, but almost never does so (I've seen it 2x before). As for the lights, sounds like the last person to work on your vehicle's wiring screwed up pretty bad.
