  1. good god, do people realize that there are small cities that use that much power? lol we really should put a link to miricle ear hearing aids on this forum...lol what in the hell is all that power going to shoved into? im in the process of planning out a system for my truck and im still only thinking max 4k going to the subs and another amp for the front stage but i still cant imainge building a system of that power. speaking of which if anyone knows of a good deal on an RF t40001bd....lol anyways. i still cant believe someone is going to push that many watts. well if they ever get stranded someplace really cold they can keep warm off of the amps...lol
  2. well by comparison...lol when you see 30k watts and 5 seats in a truck vs 30k watts and a van with maybe one seat in it and they are both slam 160+ the only diff being 7yrs ago that van was the only way to break into the 160's, now you and your boys can roll upto taco bell listening to music and breaking that 160 mark...lol i am by no way knocking the systems of the past... im guessing that was your van? what were you running in her?
  3. yeah i remember they were talking about the mics not being that accurate at high bd's. so how do the new mics actually work then?
  4. man that is insane...yeah when he hit 182 there was a lot of controversy over it cus he had his own plug in port for the mic cable and everyone thought he was messing with the voltage. i can not imagine what the new 181 would even begin to sound like...when did they change the metering systems over?
  5. the neutral start switch on top of the trany. its right where the shift cable hooks on it has a buch of wires going to it. i has a GP with the same problem. its annoying as hell. if this happens again hold the key to the start position keep the brake pedel pushed in and shift from park to reverse very slowly if it kicks the starter then that is your problem...just be sure to pop it back to park the moment it starts. or you going to go for a ride... this is a very common problem on these cars...
  6. i like the V8 swap too...its only what $15k for the whole package? if you really want to bump power look into some good head work.
  7. not sure about low but it will make a huge differance. way louder. are you talking about you want more of a rumble?
  8. yeah its getting crazy. look at the stuff steve is building. 30k in a daily driver. granted he is at the far end of the spectrum, but you see more and more running 10k watts in there cars. i mean these were levels that were only for the extreme competitors back in the day. hell i probably still have the magazine that 182.1 db was recorded, with much debate over it. that was in a green astro van. this was 10 yrs ago. now steve and some of his other builds are hitting 160 with a full, well sometimes full, interior. now i dont know what the record is anymore. when i got into this stuff the 15' subs were king, if you wanted to break 150 you had no car left....it was speakers bolted to what use to be some form of a vehicle. no seats, doors bolted shut, bullit proof glass, and as many batteries shoved into the back as you could fit in. amps would get so hot you could fry and egg on the heat sinks. i love what has happened to this industry, its because of the people like steve and so many others on here that we are seeing these advancements. these companies wouldnt be making the products if these systems werent being built.
  9. true....7yrs ago when i last did a "huge" system 2k watts was huge power. now, 2k is like something you'd hook up to grandma's new taurus.
  10. thats some BS man. i'd be pissed if that happened to my tires...its true what they say, you get what ypu pay for i guess. your new ones should hold up better
  11. so how many boys run 26's on ol school caprice out there? i seen someone the other day... damn car was as high up as my truck...WTF?? if you cant tuck the rim dont run the damn things...
  12. i had a feeling about that. im just getting back into all this since back in 2002. i use to run a mil spec capacitor back in the day...damn thing was as big as a battery. i still kinda like caps, well for smaller set ups like i have in my car. RF t5002, not overly huge but a cap would help without a large space requirement. my new project is going to use several batteries due to the fact that space is no concern.
  13. ahh you gotta love insurance dont ya. i have 35x12.50x18's on my truck...the tire guy nearly died helping me load them into the back of a friends s-10. they are well over 100lbs each mounted up. we dont get as much snow here as we did back in NY. but here in iowa we get to see -50 below and that just sucks...
  14. i am trying to figure out why people dont run capacitors anymore? is it a price issue now? are they too expensice compaired to an agm battery? i mean a cap is far lighter than a battery, by a long shot. i also understand that it takes several large caps to equal the storage of a battery. i just see so many multi battery set ups. i have seen steve use to 40 farad caps in the civic with 2 additional batterys. is this all personal preferance?
  15. your rough roads must be pretty smooth. those rims would be trashed here in iowa...they look great. on a side note, you're a brave man leaving that up on jacks...i know they are 3 ton jacks, but i have seen even a 12 ton give out...
  16. now that is something i would love to see in the rear view every day... i think that is deserving of a spot at the Smithsonian
  17. stay strong, stay positive...she has a tough fight infront of her. simply put, make the best of any time you have with her. your strength and love can make a world of differance.
  18. go with the rockfords. you really cant go wrong with them, good looks and great power...what more could you really want...plus if you need to sell it later...
  19. i need help in deciding my best options for a build im getting ready to start. i am working on a reg cab truck and am doing a blow through. i have upto 20cu ft. to work with as far as usable air space for the subs. i am trying to decided what is my best option. im trying to keep it reasonably affordable. i really like the Q series subs. they have massive Xmax of 27mm. i really love the price of the SSD line but only 21mm Xmax. then i have size options. if i play my cards right i can fit 18's. i want to run only 2 subs. so first off what size should i run. and second what line the SSD or the Q?
  20. depends on what Hz you want it tuned to. this all depends on what size box you are running, and how many drivers you have. here are a few links for you to try out. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html have fun with them...
  21. can you fit 4 18's without doing away with the back seat? not really sure how much room you have to work with.
